Ranveer Singh was affected by Lootera's underperformance, returned to 'his zone' in Ram Leela; recalls Gulshan Devaiah

As a long-time follower and admirer of Ranveer Singh’s career, I must say that his resilience and dedication to his craft are truly inspiring. The story of his journey after Lootera’s underperformance at the box office is a testament to his passion for acting and his ability to bounce back from setbacks.

Runveer Singh has a remarkable talent for acting, and his diverse roles throughout his distinguished career demonstrate this ability. Beginning with Aditya Chopra’s film Band Baaja Baraat in 2010, where he portrayed the character of Bitoo Sharma, a typical Delhi boy, Runveer then showcased his versatility in Vikramaditya Motwane’s movie Lootera (2013), playing the role of Varun Srivastava, a thief. Though Lootera received praise from critics, it did not fare well financially during its initial release. However, Actor Gulshan Devaiah revealed that Runveer was affected by the film’s underperformance and regained his confidence on the sets of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.

In a recent chat with Lehren Retro, Gulshan Devaiah talked about how Ranveer Singh was greatly impacted by Lootera’s underperformance at the box office. At that time, Ranveer’s films weren’t doing too well, according to what Gulshan shared.

In relation to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, where they worked together, Gulshan remarked, “I believe it began impacting him, whether he recognized it or not.” The actor noted that Ranveer’s Band Baaja Baaraat was successful, but his second movie, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, had only moderate earnings.

The actor from Hunterrr looked back and shared that while his co-star Ranveer rose to fame, he felt disappointed. He also mentioned that Ranveer began encouraging audiences to appreciate Lootera, a “wonderful” tale, but things didn’t turn out as the Padmaavat star had hoped.

Speaking about Ranveer Singh’s characteristic “vibrant spirit,” Gulshan noted that during filming for the musical scenes in Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Ranveer seemed to be back in his “comfort zone.” The 46-year-old actor praised Ranveer Singh, stating that he is just as you would imagine him to be. People who have known him since his childhood days have confirmed that Ranveer has consistently remained the same over time.

Reflecting on their collaboration in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie, Gulshan expressed admiration for Ranveer’s extraordinary energy, stating that it was so high that he himself often found it hard to keep up and would step aside occasionally, feeling drained just by observing Ranveer’s boundless vitality.
