Chloe Troast Will Not Be Returning To SNL, And Fans Are Not Happy About It

As a long-time fan of Saturday Night Live, I’ve seen my fair share of cast changes over the years, but the departure of Chloe Troast has left me genuinely saddened and bewildered. Her talent was undeniable, her comedic timing impeccable, and her voice… well, it carried every show tune we tuned into last season. I can’t help but feel that Lorne Michaels and the creative team have made a grave mistake in not asking her back for another round.

The long-running comedy sketch series, Saturday Night Live, plans to make its comeback on TV schedules for its 50th season starting September 28, 2024. The host for this momentous occasion hasn’t been revealed yet, but the cast is gradually taking shape. Unfortunately, some familiar faces like Punkie Johnson, who spent four seasons with the show, Molly Kearney, departing after two seasons, and now Chloe Troast have announced their exits. This news has left fans disheartened.

At the onset of Season 49, Troast became part of the SNL ensemble, leaving a lasting impact on both fans and her fellow actors. She shone in some of the season’s standout sketches, such as “Little Orphan Cassidy,” a side-splitting performance where she serenaded a moon portrayed by host Timothée Chalamet. Known for her frequent collaborations with the Please Don’t Destroy group, Troast also showcased her exceptional vocal talents throughout the series.

Unfortunately, her incredible voice and impeccable comedic timing were not enough to secure her a spot as a featured player, and she will now join a list of over 30 actors who only lasted one season on the variety show. The news was devastating to the comedian as well as her fellow cast members, who showered her in comments and good wishes on her most recent Instagram post that announced the news.

As a passionate fan, I’ve been expressing my dismay directly to Lorne Michaels and the SNL creative team about their decision not to invite me back. On platforms like Twitter, my fellow fans haven’t shied away from expressing their support either, voicing their frustration over this apparent oversight.

  • Maybe this is the bias talking but losing Chloe Troast after she had a phenomenal first season, being SNL’s musical girlie whose voices carried every show tuned sketch is a beyond idiotic decision. She deserves the world, and I can feel, will soon, fly so high. – @rendy_jones
  • Chloe Troast not being asked back to #SNL for a 2nd season is one of the most surprising SNL firings in the last 20 years Hoping she joins a long list of one-and-done SNLers who found strong success after their brief tenures at the show – @ericcsilverman
  • Chloe Troast had potential to be the next Cecily Strong, a backbone multi-talented player that SNL desperately needs. Can’t believe they let her go. – @rohallma
  • Chloe Troast felt like the future of SNL, with many stand out moments in her first season. Genuinely shocked she was not asked back. – @WillTheLandMan

Instagram fans showed their support for the comedian differently, mirroring their co-star’s actions. They united and encouraged her when she shared the news with her approximately 60,000 followers: a heartwarming display of solidarity.

  • they’re gonna regret this. they will rue this day. chloe hive 4 life 🤞 – @rileyjohnsavage
  • your sketches were some my faves, excited to see what’s next for you!! – @samsched
  • Time to be in movies…… or your own show on Netflix. Your super talented 👏🏾 – @sasha_ssp

It appears that Troast’s first year significantly resonated with Saturday Night Live fans. It’ll be intriguing to observe the impact of her departure on Season 50, set to air later this month.

Fortunately, despite the downbeat news about Studio 8H, there’s some positive developments for a select group of cast members. For instance, Marcello Hernandez, who’s well-loved on SNL, has been bumped up to the role of featured player following two years as a repertory player. Additionally, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker have also moved up to featured players, paving the way for three fresh comedians, Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline, to join the series.

This upcoming historic season will see some notable ex-cast members make appearances, commemorating the significant milestone. Additionally, Maya Rudolph is expected to return frequently, playing the part of Kamala Harris once more, as the show gears up for coverage of the 2024 Presidential Election.

Although some character changes in Season 50 might not live up to expectations, it’s definitely worth tuning in. The season premieres on NBC on Saturday, September 28th at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time. If you have an active Peacock subscription, you’ll be able to stream it afterwards.
