Lucy Hale Says “Life Feels So Good Now” After Getting Sober: “I’m Choosing Me”

As a gamer who has always been fascinated by the lives of celebrities, I can’t help but admire Lucy Hale‘s courage and resilience. Her journey from hitting rock bottom to finding solace in sobriety is truly inspiring. It’s a stark reminder that even in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, there are real-life struggles that need to be faced head-on.

This week, Lucy Hale expressed that life currently seems wonderful for her following her decision to become sober. She also shared about the difficult time she experienced at the age of 32, which she described as her personal “rock bottom,” before choosing to quit drinking alcohol.

Hale, having been abstinent for nearly three years now, shared with People that she consciously decided to take all necessary steps towards sobriety on January 2, 2022.

Hale stated, ‘That decision was the most terrifying one I’ve ever faced, yet it turned out to be the most precious present.’ After making that shift, everything else followed suit. My entire life has been transformed.

The actress from “Pretty Little Liars” remembered reaching her lowest point at age 32 just before making a significant choice. “I’ve always wanted change, but with any kind of addiction, you lose control to the compulsion,” she explained.

From Hale’s perspective, her struggle with addiction can be traced back to her teenage years. She explained, “I’ve always felt lonely and misinterpreted since I was quite young,” further elaborating that alcohol seemed to “silence the noise in my mind.

“It worked for me for a while, until it turned really dark,” she said.

The road to being sober was full of twists and turns: “It took a long, long time, with multiple setbacks, numerous challenging periods, many instances where I fell – both literally and figuratively – to discover what was beneficial in my life, uncovering the reasons behind my drinking, as quitting alcohol is only part of the solution,” she explained.

If she had continued, the singer said, “I would’ve lost everything I cared about.”

Ashley Benson’s popularity from the television series “Pretty Little Liars” aided her in managing her alcoholism during her twenties. In her own words, “I can’t imagine where I would be without my career and that creative outlet. It might have been a different story.” She further expressed that the show served as her guiding light, giving her a sense of purpose. However, she was trapped in a continuous cycle of severe depression and anxiety while maintaining professional appearances, which in turn escalated her drinking habit. This vicious cycle became difficult to break free from.

Approaching the third year mark, Hale admitted that maintaining sobriety can still be “discomforting and painful,” but added that the positive state of his life is so rewarding that he would never trade it for anything.

She stated, ‘Each day, I’m faced with the decision: ‘Today, I’ll stay sober and prioritize myself,’ and this decision goes beyond merely abstaining from alcohol. It’s incredible for me to be at a point in my life where I can openly discuss issues that once filled me with great embarrassment.’

This coming weekend, Hale is set to receive the Humanitarian Award during the 34th annual awards lunch at Friendly House, a Los Angeles-based facility specializing in addiction recovery.

She mentioned that when she stopped drinking, her goal wasn’t to serve as the symbol for sobriety. However, as she started discussing it, it was more about healing herself and regaining control over her life.
