As a dedicated gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the virtual landscapes of Australia, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s hit show, Deadloch! The shift from Tasmania’s chilly climes to the sweltering heat of the Northern Territory promises an entirely new adventure, complete with crocodiles and unfamiliar faces.
The series “Deadloch”, a popular comedy-mystery-thriller on Amazon Prime Video Australia, is now filming its second season. Instead of Tasmania, this time the story unfolds in the scorching heat and high humidity of the Northern Territory.
In June, it became known that Amazon had renewed the show “Deadloch”. Recently, the streaming platform unveiled additional information about the second season, including a first glimpse and casting updates. The new season follows Detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) and Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box), who journey to Darwin to investigate the death of one of Eddie’s former policing partners, Bushy. However, their investigation leads them into a larger mystery when the body of a prominent local figure is found in a secluded town that lies within crocodile territory.
The second season of “Deadloch,” spanning six episodes, introduces some returning characters such as Abby, formerly an overworked policewoman now transitioning to forensics, portrayed by Nina Oyama, and Cath, Dulcie’s affectionate yet clingy spouse played by Alicia Gardiner. As the story shifts to a new setting, we’ll encounter several fresh faces, including Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English, and the newcomer Lennox Monaghan. Joining the cast is Jean Tong, the writer of “Deadloch,” who will make her acting debut in this season as a journalist offering aid to Eddie and Dulcie.
Deadloch, crafted by Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney, has been a significant triumph for Amazon’s Australian original productions. It has garnered both critical acclaim and impressive viewership, with Prime Video announcing that the first season became a global hit, ranking among the Top 10 TV Shows in over 165 countries and territories, including the U.S., UK, and Canada. Furthermore, the series clinched five AACTA Awards this year, including best comedy acting for Box and best television screenplay for McCartney and McLennan. Additionally, it has earned three nominations for the 2024 TV WEEK Logie Awards.
We’re absolutely ecstatic about launching the second season of ‘Deadloch’ in the stunning locale of Garramilla/Darwin! We can’t help but feel elated to be collaborating with such an extraordinary team consisting of actors, dogs, and crocodiles. McLennan and McCartney shared this sentiment in a statement.
Deadloch is jointly produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, along with Guesswork Television and OK Great Productions. It also receives backing from Screen Queensland and Screen Territory.
