As a seasoned movie connoisseur who’s had the pleasure of watching countless action flicks, I can confidently say that October is shaping up to be quite the exciting month for fans of adrenaline-pumping films! The addition of “The Mechanic” to Netflix on October 1st is a perfect excuse to indulge in some high-octane entertainment.
Supporters of Jason Statham can anticipate rewatching one of his famous action movies this October, as The Mechanic (originally released in 2011) is set to arrive on Netflix on October 1st. If you’re a fan of high-octane action films or enjoy watching Jason Statham dish out justice with flair, The Mechanic will deliver an enticing blend of both.
In this movie directed by Simon West, Jason Statham plays Arthur Bishop, a skilled mechanic and renowned hitman. He excels in taking out his targets with precision. Respected among his peers, his reputation is unmatched. However, when his mentor and friend, Harry (played by the late Donald Sutherland), is mysteriously killed, everything changes. Bishop sets out to find the murderer, but complications arise when Harry’s son, Steve (Ben Foster), also seeks revenge. Bishop takes Steve under his wing, but instead of finding one enemy, he encounters a greater threat. Meanwhile, he tries to protect Steve to prevent him from meeting the same unfortunate end as Harry.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that the recent release didn’t break any box office records, earning only $76.7 million against a production budget of $40 million. However, it managed to recreate the thrilling vibe reminiscent of “The Transporter” series, which truly showcased Jason Statham at his best, especially with his flawless fight sequences that have won over millions globally. Moreover, the unique dynamic between Statham and Foster’s characters added an extra layer to an already captivating narrative.
Now that Netflix has included the movie “Mechanic: Resurrection” in its collection starting October, it provides an additional incentive to watch, particularly for those eager to catch the sequel. Even for individuals who are less familiar with Jason Statham’s action films (are there really such people?), “The Mechanic” offers a high-speed, no-holds-barred thriller that’s reminiscent of many of the actor’s past projects, such as “Crank” and “Crank: High Voltage.
Who Was Involved in the Making of The Mechanic?
The Mechanic” is a challenging movie that requires a skilled hand, preferably from people who have expertise in action-packed filmmaking. Notably, Simon West, with his past directorial credits like “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” starring Angelina Jolie, “Wild Card” featuring Jason Statham, and “Con Air” starring Nicolas Cage, seems to be an excellent fit for the job.
The screenplay for this film was penned by the late Lewis John Carlino, a nominee for an Academy Award, as well as Richard Wenk, who has worked on movies like ‘The Equalizer’ and ‘The Expendables’ series in the past. Despite Jason Statham being proficient in numerous martial arts, he still chose to hire a stunt double during the filming of ‘The Mechanic’, in order to minimize physical strain. Notably, Ben Cooke, who has previously served as Daniel Craig’s stunt double in ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Skyfall’, and ‘Quantum of Solace’, also played a substantial role in the success of ‘The Mechanic’.
Speaking of which, “The Mechanic” could make for a thrilling action pick to kick off your month, as it showcases some top-notch stunt work skillfully performed by Jason Statham. Age hasn’t seemed to slow him down in the slightest when it comes to facing challenges head-on.
