Brooklyn Museum Celebrates 200 Years with Emphatic Group Exhibition

To mark its 200th anniversary, the Brooklyn Museum is showcasing a variety of creative innovators from its namesake borough in a fresh group exhibition, curated by Vik Muniz, Mickalene Thomas, Fred Tomasell, and Jeffrey Gibson. Notably, Jeffrey Gibson, who hails from Brooklyn, is currently presenting a groundbreaking exhibition at the Venice Biennale that questions the roots of American mythology using vibrant sculptures, installations, and films. His work draws inspiration from his heritage as a Mississippi Choctaw-Cherokee.

Sharon Matt Atkins, the museum’s deputy director, stated, “For decades, our institution has stood behind Brooklyn’s artists. This upcoming exhibition is an extension of that long-standing commitment.
