It seems logical that if this season caught me off guard with the unexpected conversations between Chidi and Rayne about vampires and cannibals, then it’s only natural that Tigerlily and Adnan’s Day one wedding is playing out as I anticipated so far. Tigerlily Was Shocked By Adnan’s Treatment Of Her After Arriving In Jordan
Tigerlily was gearing up for her upcoming wedding with Adnan in Jordan, but was taken aback when she learned that their nuptials wouldn’t be a private affair and he hadn’t informed her about it. Although this wasn’t a deal-breaker, she felt upset that his entire family would be present, while she had invited just a few friends for the trip.
The issues arose when Tigerlily decided to have her hair styled before meeting everyone. Adnan became displeased as she had a male stylist, which wasn’t to his liking. It’s hard not to wonder if there are significant compatibility concerns that require resolution, despite the marriage apparently succeeding. What’s particularly disheartening is the frequency of this issue on shows like 90 Day Fiancé, particularly when American women travel to the Middle East. I wish the show would stop emphasizing this aspect.
Can 90 Day Fiancé Please Stop Showing Americans Entirely Ignorant Of Middle Eastern Customs?
It’s really disheartening for spectators when an American travels to the Middle East without understanding the local customs and cultural practices. For instance, Tigerlily admitted that she had no prior knowledge of Islam, yet expressed curiosity about it on the very day of her wedding.
It was reminiscent of the time when Nicole and Mahmoud Sherbiny had their disagreement over the Burkini, and it became clear to her that living somewhere with such a distinct cultural atmosphere, unlike that found in the U.S., was beyond her comfort zone.
People should be free to explore and discover that a particular lifestyle isn’t for them. What frustrates me the most is that some participants on the show “90 Day Fiancé” could have learned so much more about these cultures if they had simply taken the time to do a little research beforehand. It’s understandable that some may think they won’t need to adhere to certain rules, as Brittany Banks pointed out when she shared her reasons for the issues with Yazan Abo Horira.
I don’t know if this is a great reason.
Although it’s clear that “90 Day Fiancé” selects couples for maximum entertainment value, I find myself growing weary of the recurring theme where a Westerner, previously unaware, discovers the stringent gender norms prevalent in Middle Eastern societies. Couldn’t we also focus on positive outcomes from these relationships, showcasing some success stories instead?
At minimum, attention should be given towards subjects who are well-educated and fully aware of their partner’s expectations upon arrival in a foreign country. A compelling narrative that showcases this could be an interesting approach, as it might help disrupt the recurring pattern observed over many seasons.
