Her impressive portfolio, which includes her captivating performance opposite Glen Powell in Hit Man, makes her the perfect fit for this high-octane adventure.
Actress Adria Arjona, known for her role opposite Glen Powell in Netflix’s “Hit Man”, is close to confirming her lead role and executive production duties in the upcoming movie “Onslaught”. This project marks the latest feature film from director Adam Wingard, who previously worked on “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”.
A24 is set to release a new action thriller following a successful auction bid in the spring season. This project reunites director Adam Wingard with his regular partner, Simon Barrett. Together, they created popular cult films such as “You’re Next” and “The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are working on the project together, and it’s expected that Wingard will take up the director’s role once filming begins in New Mexico towards the end of this year.
Details for the film “Onslaught” are being kept in a secretive underground research facility. Insiders describe it as an unconventional blend of action, horror, and thriller genres. The production seems to be closer in style to Wingard’s earlier works, which were all independent projects before he moved on to produce the large-scale blockbusters “Godzilla vs Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong”.
Reports indicate that Arjona’s character portrays a mother who resorts to hidden talents for the sake of safeguarding her family, following an encounter with a dangerous entity that manages to break free from a classified military facility.
Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett are set to create the movie “Onslaught” under their production company Ryder Picture Company, in collaboration with A24 and Alexander Black for Lyrical Media. Moreover, Wingard and manager Jeremy Platt will produce it as well, through their recently established Breakaway Civilization, together with Barrett.
In collaboration, Lyrical and A24 will jointly fund the project. Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers from Lyrical will take on executive producer roles alongside A24.
For Arjona, this role could be advantageous since Wingard has a talent for portraying powerful female characters, as demonstrated in “You’re Next” and “The Guest,” the latter being particularly significant for the rising star Maika Monroe.
Arjona garnered significant recognition for her performance alongside Powell in the alluring and captivating series “Hit Man,” which premiered on Netflix in June. Her latest role was seen in Zoe Kravitz’s first directorial project, “Blink Twice.” She will reprise her character in the upcoming season of “Andor,” a critically acclaimed Star Wars spin-off series featuring Diego Luna. The second season of “Andor” is set to air in 2025.
In addition to acting, the actress is both a star and executive producer of the independent film “Los Frikis“, which takes place in Cuba during the early 1990s. This drama has garnered multiple awards on the festival circuit, including the Marimbas award at the Miami International Film Festival.
