The Graph Upgrades Tooling for Solana Devs to Accelerate Dapp Deployment

As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in the tech industry, I find myself constantly amazed by the relentless pace of innovation and collaboration in the blockchain space. Today, I am particularly enthused about The Graph Network’s recent upgrades to support Solana, a move that underscores their commitment to fostering interoperability and decentralization across web3.

The Graph Network significantly upgraded its support for the Solana network, building upon its previous integration. The Solana developer community now has access to better data tools, more ways to get started accessing indexed Solana data (including using pre-built solutions by notable teams such as Messari and Top Ledger).

The upgrades offer an enhanced development experience for Substreams-powered subgraphs (SpS) with new codegen tools, usable both remotely and locally. Developed by StreamingFast,  a core engineering team in The Graph ecosystem, the dev-environment includes tools to help developers quickly scaffold an end-to-end Substreams project. This means unprecedented flexibility to Solana development. For developers well-versed in Substreams, the new tooling enables quick and easy syncing.

Developers can initiate Solana construction utilizing Graph, as no expertise in Substreams is required. The latest tools also enable developers to retrieve Solana data without dealing with Substreams or Rust, making it simple for them to work effectively with Solana data using tools that align with their proficiency and project specifications.

Additional significant advancements include the Solana Substreams modules created by Top Ledger and StreamingFast, as well as numerous Substreams and Substreams-driven subgraphs developed by Messari. Developers will further benefit from a variety of pre-built Substreams-powered subgraphs, such as UNCX and Orca Whirlpool.

Nick Hansen, Head of Growth at The Graph Foundation, stated that the rapid increase in developer and user involvement on Solana has led to a significant need for open, web3-aligned data that is decentralized. He added that the recent update in The Graph’s tooling and improved support will empower the Solana community to derive even greater value from the decentralized data infrastructure of web3.

Due to its fast transaction rates and affordable fees, Solana’s technology is often chosen by numerous decentralized applications (dapps) and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. As the Solana community expands at a rapid pace, there’s an increasing need for efficient data indexing and query solutions.

With its upgraded capabilities for Solana, The Graph provides developers with robust tools to construct decentralized applications (dapps) and process on-chain data more effectively and economically. This enhancement includes lower costs, a streamlined data source, and an advanced programmable indexing stack that is simpler to utilize, faster in indexing, and offers a historical cache of Solana blocks which are 25% the size of a full block.

These advancements align with The Graph’s goal of facilitating a multi-chain future and promoting interoperability within web3. The enhanced tools are expected to offer significant benefits to Solana developers, data analysts focusing on Solana-related data, as well as the larger web3 community seeking data solutions.

The Graph Network continues to prioritize delivering a decentralized data network for web3 developers, boasting more than 9,000 subgraphs. It ceased its free hosted service in June, shifting towards a decentralized network to boost developer power and the entire web3 community by upholding data independence and decentralization.

ABOUT THE GRAPH

As a researcher delving into the realm of decentralized internet, I find myself constantly relying on The Graph as my primary data and information hub. Being the pioneering decentralized data marketplace that established and standardized subgraphs, The Graph has emerged as the go-to method for indexing and accessing blockchain data in the web3 landscape since its inception in 2018.

With increasing need for data in the web3 sphere, The Graph embarks on a fresh chapter, expanding its horizons to encompass novel data services and query languages. This evolution aims to empower the decentralized protocol to cater to an extensive range of applications – not just today, but also well into the future.
