‘Time Bandits’ Canceled After Single Season at Apple TV+

As a seasoned gamer and TV enthusiast, I must confess my disappointment in Apple TV+’s decision to cancel “Time Bandits.” This series had the potential to be a gem, blending elements of adventure, humor, and time travel – much like the games I’ve spent countless hours immersed in.

Apple TV+ won’t reset the clock on Time Bandits.

The streaming platform owned by the tech behemoth has decided to end the run of a series, which was a modern take on Terry Gilliam’s 1981 movie “Time Bandits,” following only one season. This announcement was made just under four weeks after the series concluded its debut season on August 21st.

I’ve been hooked on the latest streaming series, “Time Bandits”. Unfortunately, viewership numbers aren’t out there for everyone to see. Despite this secretive nature, it didn’t crack Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series in its first month (Apple TV+ dropped two episodes weekly). However, the critics seem to love it! Daniel Fienberg from The Hollywood Reporter praised the second half of the season, calling it “actively funny, clever, and a bit emotional”.

The series is similar to a movie and it chronicles the journey of Kal-El Tuck, a history enthusiast who gets drafted into a team of thieves that traverse through different time periods to acquire valuable artifacts. Lisa Kudrow takes on the role of the group’s leader, while Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Rune Temte, and Roger Jean Nsengiyumva are also part of the cast.

Previously operational studios like Paramount Television Studios, Anonymous Content, and MRC Television were responsible for producing the show. The creative minds behind Time Bandits, Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Iain Morris, developed this series, inspired by characters initially conceptualized by Gilliam and Michael Palin. Handmade Films, who produced the original movie, also executive produced with Garrett Basch, Tim Coddington, and Jane Stanton serving as the executives.
