Shortly following her breakout performance in the 2007 blockbuster “Transformers,” actress Megan Fox appeared in the critically acclaimed feminist horror film “Jennifer’s Body.” In this movie, after being possessed by a demon during a failed rock band’s attempt to gain fame and fortune through her sacrifice, Jennifer Check exploits her attractiveness to ensnare unwitting high school males for consumption. The film is rich with themes of female empowerment, camaraderie, bodily autonomy, sexual liberation, and now you can watch it free of charge on Tubi.

2024 finds Fox once again in a recognizable role, appearing in the sci-fi thriller “Subservience” as Alice, an AI housekeeping robot who caters to a man in need following his wife’s illness. Of course, she eventually gains self-awareness. Isn’t it unfortunate that he has to do his own laundry? Critics aren’t exactly enamored with her latest film, although they appreciate her acting (as they did with “Jennifer’s Body”). However, they also label it a run-of-the-mill production lacking fresh ideas in the genre. This seems eerily reminiscent of the reception 15 years ago for her groundbreaking feminist film.
It appears that Megan Fox might find herself in a similar situation as before, but we’ll have to wait and see if the movie “Subservience” eventually receives the same acclaim as a feminist masterpiece, shining a light on the wickedness within men, only for the narrative to ultimately expose their sinister desires.
