Chappell Roan on Why She’s “Kind of Hoping” She Doesn’t Win a Grammy

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more than a few lives of virtual celebrities come and go, Chappell Roan strikes me as a breath of fresh air. Her rapid rise to fame is reminiscent of those overnight sensations that populate the gaming world, but her focus on sustainability and mental health is something I wish more of these digital stars embraced.

Last week, Chappell Roan managed to secure some awards at the VMAs, yet the prospect of receiving a Grammy, music’s most prestigious prize, doesn’t seem to excite her too much.

Since the singer experienced a swift ascent to stardom last year after launching her first album titled The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in 2023, it’s quite possible she may receive some Grammy nominations this season. Yet, awards aren’t what Roan is currently focusing on.

She expressed that it’d be nice if she didn’t win an award, as then people wouldn’t bother her anymore with congratulations: ‘Look guys, we gave it our best and still didn’t win, see you!’ She won’t have to go through this again.” This was recently shared in an interview with The Face, though she acknowledges that her mother would be thrilled to attend the Grammys or Brit Awards.

A week ago, Roan was awarded the Moon Person for the Best New Artist category at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. She took the stage to perform her popular track “Good Luck, Babe” as part of the event.

Currently, the focus for the “Hot To Go!” singer, Roan, lies primarily in striking a harmonious equilibrium between her well-being and professional commitments, with the ultimate goal of establishing a lasting presence in the music scene.

She expressed a strong determination to make this venture sustainable,” she stated. “At present, my primary focus is achieving this goal. At times, my mind whispers suggestions of quitting temporarily and taking a break next year. The reality is that this field and craft often flourish due to mental stress, burnout, overwork, and sleeplessness. The larger one becomes, the less healthy they tend to be. Isn’t it ironic how this can be so problematic?

Roan expressed, “My aim is figuring out how I can avoid self-loathing in relation to my job, life, and myself, as things currently stand, they’re not going well, I’m merely struggling to find ways to feel good about my health.

The artist associated with “Pink Pony Club” has been outspoken about her concerns regarding the downsides of fame, particularly the inappropriate behavior she’s encountered from individuals who claim to be fans. Previously, she has asked people to desist from touching her, cease acting strangely towards her loved ones, and refrain from making assumptions about her personal life.
