‘I Didn’t F—ing Appreciate That At All:’ Stephen Amell Responded To Peacemaker Taking A Shot At Green Arrow And The ‘Excessive’ Way The Arrowverse Has Taken Flak

As a dedicated gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of DC Universe, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Stephen Amell. Having followed his journey as Green Arrow for eight seasons, I’ve seen the dedication, the grit, and the unwavering passion he brought to the role.

Despite not having any more DC TV shows planned for Stephen Amell at this time, as he’s set to appear in the NBC spinoff Suits: L.A., it’s clear that he won’t cease advocating for Green Arrow given his eight-season portrayal of the Emerald Archer and his crucial role in The CW’s Arrowverse. Meanwhile, as DC enthusiasts eagerly anticipate John Cena’s return in Peacemaker Season 2, Amell expressed his thoughts on how shows like James Gunn’s tend to belittle rather than acknowledge the Arrowverse.

The Peacemaker Joke

In case you haven’t heard, the show “Peacemaker” included many references to DC characters throughout its first season. Some of these references were rather unexpectedly suggestive. The series, a blend of streaming action and comedy, saved one particularly intriguing nod for the finale – a jab that revolved around My Little Pony, which seemed to target Oliver Queen in a somewhat intimate manner.

At Brony conventions, Green Arrow appears wearing the rear part of Twilight Sparkle’s costume, which features a large, four-inch-wide opening suggestive of a backside.

As a passionate fan, I must admit that the joke might not have resonated much beyond the wrestling ring, given The CW’s reputation for family-friendly shows and humor within the Arrowverse. However, even with its darker storylines, it was a jest that apparently touched a nerve at some point. Initially, Stephen Amell playfully downplayed it, claiming he was too preoccupied with outsmarting John Cena in the wrestling arena, a claim that, let’s be honest, may have been slightly embellished.

Stephen Amell’s Latest Comments

Stephen Amell recently appeared on the podcast “Insight with Chris Van Vilet” to discuss the potential third season of “Heels” on Netflix and his ongoing connections with WWE and professional wrestling stars. During the conversation, the topic of derogatory Green Arrow comments from the show “Peacemaker” arose, which Amell not only acknowledged but also addressed the notion that the Arrowverse is still seen as a punchline despite its enduring popularity. In his words:

Sure thing!

It’s understandable that someone might think this way, given how The Arrowverse managed to captivate DC fans with its intricate conspiracies, time-travel mysteries, Speed Force antics, and billionaire vigilantes for almost a decade, all while operating on smaller budgets compared to the funding received by DC TV shows more recently. However, it’s likely that some Snyder Cut enthusiasts might take issue with this perspective.

Despite attempting to maintain a calm demeanor, Stephen Amell managed to keep a smile during that section of the discussion. He also clarified that such incidents no longer disturb his sleep, though they might continue to irritate him occasionally. Putting it in his own words, he said:

Well, I guess I’m not truly angry, but it just felt like a punch in the gut when I heard that comment. To be honest, it takes an immense amount of effort to portray a superhero without any actual powers for 23 episodes each year. It’s incredibly challenging! So, let me put it this way, maybe refrain from belittling our show if you can. We might need to edit that part out of the podcast. [Laughs.]

As a gamer, I find myself often reminiscing about an old saying: when you don’t have anything positive to share, it’s better to keep quiet, especially when it comes to Marvel. But let me clarify, I’m not criticizing, I’m just expressing my thoughts.

On several occasions, I’ve crossed paths with John. Truly, there isn’t a kinder or more authentic individual out there. It’s James Gunn I should be annoyed with for penning that initially, but he’s as nice a person as they come. He’s just an outstanding individual. Therefore, my displeasure isn’t due to any personal grudge against him.

In the upcoming Season 2 of Peacemaker, we can expect some light-hearted jabs at various superheroes that the character will encounter. As for John Amell’s new series Suits: L.A., it remains to be seen if there will be any hints or nods towards the Green Arrow character in the show’s debut. Stay tuned for more updates!
