As a seasoned gamer of the global music scene, I’ve attended my fair share of events, but none have come close to the immersive, collaborative experience that Jameson’s Sound Distillery delivered in Ireland. The historic setting, coupled with the state-of-the-art facilities and diverse talent from around the world, created an atmosphere that fostered creativity and camaraderie like no other.
At a remarkable musical event, the renowned Irish whiskey label, Jameson, organized the inaugural Sound Distillery in Ireland not too long ago. This exclusive gathering brought together talented musicians, vocalists, and record producers to collaborate with Music Producer Anderson .Paak for a thrilling three-day music production spree.
The dedicated music hub was set at a castle resort in the rolling fields of southern Irish county Cork, close to the brand’s hometown of Midleton. With the artists traveling in from various countries around the world, including Malaysia, India, the US, and Japan, it offered an idyllic backdrop that fostered connectivity and collaboration without distractions. Allowing creativity to flow from the outside in, Jameson partnered with Fender to curate a unique set-up in the historic venue with fully kitted recording studios and jam spaces housing high-end instruments and production equipment.
The event commenced on a Sunday evening, starting with a party for twenty artists aimed at fostering relationships, especially with Anderson .Paak, and familiarizing them with their musical counterparts. This gathering was set against the stunning backdrop of the setting sun. Not long after dinner, the artists took turns performing their preferred songs during an open mic session. The true enchantment, though, unfolded the next morning when the group was ready to delve into a packed day of workshops and collaborative sessions organized by the radio station NTS.
Kicking off the week’s vibe, NxWorries artist Anderson .Paak sat down for a cozy chat with radio host Zezi Ifore to delve into his unique approach to collaboration. During their conversation, he reminisced about his early days with band Free Nationals and utilizing simple equipment, as well as discussing his recent collaborations and the value of embracing novel methods in music production. In an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of “places to be” with Fred again.., .Paak also revealed his awe at the assortment of unusual devices, TikToks, sound effects, and spoken word performances that the producer employed to generate the electronic track, sparking in him a desire to broaden his artistic horizons.
With a strong sense of motivation and determination to apply their insights, the collaborating artists made their way to six recording studios nestled within the historic venue. Once they had harmoniously combined their tunes, they gathered again for a creative workshop focused on music production. During this session, facilitators distributed prompt cards featuring phrases about emotions, sounds, and locations, which each artist duo then creatively reinterpreted in a 15-second musical snippet.
At the end of the day, we sauntered over to a cozy local pub for some Jameson cocktails and another engaging chat with Anderson .Paak. This time around, he delved into his creative journey and the importance of incorporating your unique identity to break free from convention. With an authentic Irish band taking the stage after us, Anderson’s advice about seizing new opportunities resonated, and in the true spirit of collaboration, KAIIT took the mic and Ian Hooper strummed the acoustic guitar, merging cultures and melodies in a fresh, innovative way.
On the second-to-last day, programming shifted towards practical sessions as Fender offered hands-on guitar workshops, and recording studio opportunities were available. Many participants in the group seemed naturally inclined towards songwriting and organic music creation, so NTS organized a creative sound session. This session encouraged artists to compose music scores for visual clips taken from famous movies. The artists played around with digital formats and combined their distinct sounds to produce atmospheric tracks that matched the visuals.
In the evening, the artists moved towards the Jameson Distillery, eager to witness an exclusive performance by Anderson .Paak and his talented trumpeter Maurice Brown. Unlike regular concerts, this event unfolded in the heart of the distillery’s whiskey barrels, creating a snug and inviting ambiance that resonated with warmth. The duo infused the venue with their signature charm and stage presence, making it an unforgettable night. As the evening drew to a close, some of the artists took turns singing a song for the Music Distiller, serving as the perfect finishing touch to this one-of-a-kind experience.
