- Matchday Champions is a new collectible football card game on mobile
- It’s available worldwide, with a kick-off event hosted by a well-known footballer and influencer
- The game boasts its own narrative-creation engine to differentiate matches
As a seasoned football enthusiast who’s seen more than my fair share of thrilling matches and heartbreaking losses, I must say I’m intrigued by Matchday Champions. The concept of a collectible card game that promises to recreate the drama and unpredictability of a real-life football match is certainly novel.
It’s challenging to duplicate the excitement and unpredictability of a great football match, but Matchday developers believe they’ve found a solution with their latest release, Matchday Champions. Now available on iOS and Android, this card game combines the familiar activities of gathering and competing against your favorite players, but with an unexpected twist.
Fundamentally, you assemble a team from renowned male and female soccer players, arrange your lineup, then send them onto the field. A unique storytelling system within Matchday is designed to mimic the ups and downs of an authentic game. Although we’re unsure about its effectiveness at this point, it’s undeniably a daring concept.
To celebrate the launch of the game, a unique tournament will be organized by Spanish Football World Cup Champion Alexia Putellas and Belgian influencer Celine Dept. This tournament invites players to choose their preferred team from these two influential figures and compete in virtual matches for both the glory of victory and exclusive rewards.
That’s liquid football
Personally speaking, I do think the idea of a narrative-creation engine is a bit odd. I don’t necessarily smell AI on the wind, but I’ll be a bit sceptical of how well it can replicate real football matches without breaking down into a series of bullet-points Football Simulator style. But if you want to try it out for yourself you can find Matchday Champions now on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
