The Legend of Maula Jatt India Release: Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s film to ONLY release in Punjab; Here’s why

As a long-time admirer of Pakistani cinema and Fawad Khan’s captivating performances, I must say I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of “The Legend of Maula Jatt” in India. However, it’s a bittersweet moment as the film is only releasing in Punjab, not nationwide.

For a while now, fans in India have been eagerly anticipating the premiere of the highly-acclaimed Pakistani film “The Legend of Maula Jatt.” It was revealed that the movie featuring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan will be screened in Indian theaters on October 2nd. However, there’s some disappointing news to share – the release won’t be nationwide; instead, it will only be shown in India’s Punjab region.

The Tale of Maula Jatt marks the first Pakistani movie shown in India’s cinemas in more than a decade, and it is being handled by Zee Studios for distribution. The producer, Nadeem Mandviwalla, who facilitated the distribution of this Punjabi-language epic, recently discussed with India Today and verified that the film will have limited streaming availability. He also expressed optimism that this much-anticipated project would generate significant income in the Indian market.

As Nadeem explained, one factor contributing to this situation could be that the movie isn’t currently streaming on online platforms. He noted that due to the film being released two years later, the initial excitement from 2022 has diminished, but he believes that positive word of mouth about the movie will generate enthusiasm once more.

In 2022, when The Legend of Maula Jatt, a modern adaptation of the 1979 Pakistani film, hit theaters, it broke records as the biggest box office success for a Pakistani movie. Interestingly, the film’s limited release in Punjab serves as a gauge to evaluate how contemporary audiences are responding to Pakistani cinema.

Beyond just focusing on security matters, the team is keen to steer clear of any debates or unfavorable situations. Given their market presence in Punjab, they believe it’s an ideal spot for the release of the film at this time. This sentiment was echoed by Bilal Lashari, the director of The Legend of Maula Jatt, who expressed on his Instagram, “Set to release in India, Punjab on October 2nd!

For those unfamiliar, Zee Studios, expanding beyond borders, is a division of Zee Entertainment Enterprises. This same company owns and operates the Zindagi channel, which specializes in airing content from Pakistan within India.
