As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that I’ve seen it all – from pixelated glitches to virtual reality nightmares. However, nothing quite prepared me for what I witnessed on the September 20 episode of Wheel of Fortune.
The classic game show “Wheel of Fortune” is undergoing modifications following its debut on the 2024 television schedule after completing its 42nd season. Notably, Ryan Seacrest has taken over from the legendary game show host Pat Sajak as the franchise’s frontman. Additionally, a brand-new set was introduced to viewers, sparking diverse reactions among fans. However, an uneasy incident occurred during a recent episode where it seemed like a technical glitch caused Vanna White‘s reflection to behave independently of her co-host, adding a touch of eeriness to the show.
The chilling days of Halloween are fast approaching, and while Pat Sajak’s near-summoning of the Candyman might have given us goosebumps, it’s Vanna White’s reflection during the September 20 episode of Wheel of Fortune that sent a shiver down our spines. As you can see in the snapshot below, the game was progressing as normal, with contestants tackling a “Living Things” puzzle:
Initially, the camera alternated between showing the players and the game board, following its regular pattern. However, merely a few moments after that, something incredibly alarming occurred.
It’s clear that the puzzle has been altered, with its category now being “Same Name”. This unexpected twist has led some to refer to it as a “glitch in the system”, similar to what one Reddit user described as a “glitch in the Matrix”. The peculiarity lies in the fact that at the base of the screen, Vanna White’s reflection seems to stroll across the stage, while the letter-turner herself appears frozen in place.
Not only can her real image be seen as well, but I’ve never given much thought to the reflection beneath the board before. However, now I most certainly will. It seems eerily reminiscent of a suspenseful horror scene where the mirror image is about to become out of sync with its source. Could it be that Vanna White appears so timelessly youthful due to being an AI?
It’s clear I’m not suggesting any gossip about our cherished co-host or speculating about her being a robot, secretly unleashing alternate personas to conquer the world through game shows. Instead, I’m genuinely puzzled over the inconsistency in the reflection. Could it be possible that there isn’t really a reflection and the entire screen area where the category is displayed has been added during post-production? I would have assumed they simply layered the category name onto the original frame without any additional editing. Seems I was mistaken, huh.
I’m confident there must be a logical reason behind Vanna White’s reflection appearing to have a mind of its own, but seeing it certainly gave me the creepy feeling known as the heebie-jeebies. Every time I replayed the video, that eerie sensation returned.
It wasn’t expected for me to encounter any chills on “Wheel of Fortune”, given all the upcoming horror movies for Halloween. But here we are! That just adds to its appeal as one of the greatest game shows out there. And now, it’s definitely earned a spot among the spookiest too.
Look up the broadcast schedule for your region to find out when ‘The Wheel’ airs next, as it might reveal further peculiarities during this eerie autumn season.
