‘Ghost of Tsushima’ Developers Announce New Game ‘Ghost of Yōtei’

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the announcement of “Ghost of Yōtei” has stirred a sense of anticipation within me. Having delved deep into the rich lore and immersive world of “Ghost of Tsushima“, I am thrilled to see Sucker Punch continue their exploration of Feudal Japan, albeit in a different era and location. The promise of new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons is tantalizing, and I can’t help but wonder what innovative elements they will introduce to keep us hooked.

The developers behind the acclaimed title Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch, have officially unveiled their upcoming PlayStation 5 game, titled Ghost of Yōtei.

In a recent blog post on PlayStation, developers announced that the upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei, will preserve the fundamental elements present in its precursor, Ghost of Tsushima, where players controlled the protagonist Jin Sakai throughout his journey across Feudal Japan. The new title, Ghost of Yotei, will primarily concentrate on “the concept of the Ghost”, introducing a fresh hero named Atsu. Although Sucker Punch did not disclose detailed plot points, they have confirmed that Atsu’s story unfolds in 1603, more than three centuries after the events depicted in Ghost of Tsushima, in an area surrounding Mount Yōtei located in modern-day Hokkaido. The developers explained that during this time (1603), this region was not under Japanese rule and featured vast plains, snowy landscapes, and unforeseen perils.

Andrew Golfarb, Senior Communications Manager of Sucker Punch, shared that their first game specifically designed for PlayStation 5 is “Sucker Punch’s First,” and they are thrilled to further develop the visual authenticity they began in Ghost of Tsushima. They have expanded the landscape with extensive views, introduced new skies adorned with stars and auroras, enhanced movement realism through wind effects on plants, and more visual upgrades to come. The new setting also allows them to introduce novel mechanics, gameplay enhancements, and new weapons.

Watch the teaser above. Ghost of Yōtei is set to release on the PlayStation 5 in 2025.
