Theta Labs launches tool converting smartphone GPU to mine TFUEL tokens

As an experienced crypto investor with a knack for spotting promising projects that leverage innovative technology, I find Theta Labs’ EdgeCloud for Mobile particularly intriguing. With a background in tech and a deep appreciation for decentralized networks, I see this development as a game-changer in the realm of cloud computing.

Theta Labs has unveiled EdgeCloud for Mobile, enabling users to share their smartphone’s GPU capabilities as part of a distributed network and receive TFUEL tokens in return.

As stated in a press release distributed to crypto.news, EdgeCloud for Mobile plans to utilize the processing power of approximately 3.9 billion globally active Android devices to strengthen its decentralized network for cloud computing.

The Theta EdgeCloud is a versatile computing platform that combines cloud and edge technology, driven by DePIN. It harnesses over 30,000 dispersed computing nodes to provide flexible, budget-friendly GPU processing power. By leveraging the growing computational abilities of smartphones, this platform aims to maximize these resources.

As per Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, integrating smartphones into their decentralized network of nodes could fundamentally change the way they function and scale up their operations.

Liu noted that expanding our network from 30,000 computer processing units (PC) nodes to possibly countless mobile devices will greatly enhance our network’s performance. With each new device, we gain additional distributed graphical processing unit (GPU) power.

These gadgets help with AI calculations, such as video object recognition, by handling numerous, simultaneous tasks. Theta Labs predicts that if only 30,000 Android devices lend their GPU capabilities for eight hours daily, they could produce an impressive 240,000 hours of computational work in a single day.

The EdgeCloud mobile app, which can be found on the Google Play Store, empowers users by allowing them to selectively share their device’s resources only when it’s charging or connected to Wi-Fi. This thoughtful feature helps conserve battery life and data usage while still enabling them to participate in the network and earn passive income.

Users receive TFUEL tokens, which are native to Theta Network, as a reward for contributing their resources. Currently, this altcoin has seen an impressive increase of 98.8% over the course of the last year.

As an analyst, I’m excited to confirm that our application is designed to be compatible with any Android device manufactured from 2020 onwards, irrespective of the location where it was purchased or used.

Previously mentioned by crypto.news, Theta EdgeCloud has already gained several academic partners who leverage its platform for cutting-edge AI research in fields such as media, healthcare, bioinformatics, and finance. Most recently, the Seoul Women’s University joined forces with the DePIN-powered network.
