As a seasoned watch collector with a penchant for the unique and exquisite, I find myself utterly captivated by the upcoming TOKI: Watch Auction by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo. With a lifelong fascination for Japanese horology and a soft spot for independent watchmakers, this sale promises to be an unparalleled experience.
In November, Phillips, partnering with Bacs & Russo, will be organizing the TOKI: Watch Auction – an exclusive event showcasing a distinguished assortment of watches from independent craftsmen and Japanese watch brands.
This sale showcases a unique collection of watches, crafted with rare components, intricate mechanisms, and meticulous attention to detail. The assortment is provided by seasoned and astute Japanese collectors. Notable brands from Japan’s watchmaking industry are included in the selection, covering a wide spectrum, including Kurono Tokyo by Hajime Asaoka, Takano, Naoya Hida & co., Masahiro Kikuno, and Otsuka Lotec.
Among the offerings from a renowned Japanese watchmaker, there’s a standout piece: a pink gold Grand Niji “Rainbow” wristwatch, meticulously designed by Kurono Tokyo for this thematic sale. This exclusive timepiece is projected to sell for between $9,000 and $18,000 USD. Its unique appeal lies in the intricate, shimmering Urushi lacquer dial, which displays the hours using the Japanese zodiac time system.
Among the standout pieces at this auction, I can’t help but feel excited about my personal favorites such as the iconic “Paul Newman Panda” Rolex Daytona. Additionally, there’s a stunning Patek Philippe ref. 5016 in platinum with a gray dial that catches my eye. What truly piques my curiosity is an exceptionally rare Roger Smith Series 2 Edition 3 timepiece, which will be auctioned for the first time – I simply can’t wait to see it up close!
The TOKI: Watch Auction is scheduled to happen at Phillips’ Asia office in Hong Kong on November 22, 2024. Before the auction, some notable pieces will be showcased during a tour that includes stops in Tokyo, Singapore, Taipei, and Geneva.
