As a longtime fan of Michael Weatherly and the NCIS franchise, I must say that the latest updates about the upcoming spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, have me more than just a little excited! Having followed the adventures of Tony DiNozzo for close to two decades, it’s fascinating to see where this new chapter will take him and his on-screen partner, Ziva David.
Although Michael Weatherly briefly returned to NCIS earlier this year for the episode honoring the late David McCallum, the fact of the matter is that it’s been close to a decade since he last played Tony DiNozzo in a starring capacity. Weatherly exited the procedural franchise’s flagship show in the Season 13 finale, but the time is soon approaching for both him and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David to get the spotlight again. Their streaming-exclusive spinoff, titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva is in the middle of filming, and while there are a lot of things I’m expecting from the upcoming series, I can’t say say that seeing Weatherly with camels was on my bingo card.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva kicked off production in June in Budapest, and in late August, Weatherly shared a photo on his Instagram page where he was dressed dapperly and looking hot (literally). Two months later, the actor has posted a new photo of himself next to Tony & Ziva showrunner John McNamara with some surprising guests in the background:

Given that Weatherly explicitly mentioned he and McNamara were filming on the set of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, I’m eager to understand the context in which camels appear in this spinoff. Although it’s already known that Tony and Ziva will be compelled to flee across Europe due to an attack on Tony’s security firm, it seems one of their destinations involves camels. But what exactly is going on? Are they visiting a zoo, or are these camels owned by someone privately? I require answers immediately!
Michael Weatherly, from NCIS, revealed the moment he believed CBS fully appreciated the show’s potential, and I find it astounding that it took so long.
Michael Weatherly clarifies his perspective on why he feels NCIS stands apart from series such as FBI and Law & Order: “I don’t intend to undervalue that entire genre.
In a first since Season 11’s second episode, characters Tony and Ziva from NCIS will appear together on screen. This marks Cote de Pablo’s departure as a series regular. However, following the events of Season 17, Ziva, who was thought to be dead for years, resurfaced and reconnected with Tony and their daughter Tali. Yet, their lives filled with joy, peril, and mystery can only remain calm for so long. As suggested by the show’s synopsis, Tony and Ziva may find a way to trust each other once more, paving the path for an unconventional happy ending amidst this new phase of their lives.
Instead of premiering on CBS like all previous NCIS series, including the upcoming prequel NCIS: Origins, the new spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva will only be viewable with a Paramount+ subscription. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are among the main cast, along with Isla Gee, Lara Rossi, Amita Suman, Maximillian Osinski, Julian Ovenden, Nassima Benchicou, Terence Maynard, and James D’Arcy. At this point, there’s been no indication that any other well-known NCIS characters will appear.
As we eagerly anticipate the release of NCIS: Tony & Ziva on Paramount+ and other specifics, let’s not forget that both NCIS Season 22 and NCIS: Origins debut on Monday, October 14 according to the 2024 TV lineup. The premiere date for NCIS: Sydney Season 2 has yet to be announced.
