As a long-time fan who has grown up watching Saturday Night Live and the countless comedic masterpieces that its stars have graced us with, I can wholeheartedly say that Will Ferrell is truly a one-of-a-kind individual. And if Kristen Bell‘s story is anything to go by, he’s also a generous soul who doesn’t hesitate to make a fan’s dream come true, even when he has no idea who they are!
Actors may appear to lead glamorous lives, but behind the scenes, they can sometimes behave just like ordinary people. For instance, they might exaggerate their importance to impress friends or gain unauthorized access to places they shouldn’t be. One example of this is Kristen Bell, who admitted to pulling off such stunts at 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live afterparties, without getting caught by Will Ferrell – despite her frequent lies!
It could have been nothing more than a fortunate coincidence that Bell was on Late Night with Seth Meyers the same evening as Ferrell and Harper Steele. Meyers stated that he initially crossed paths with all three back in 2001 while working on Saturday Night Live. However, it provided a wonderful opportunity to share the Frozen actress’s amusing tale about when the Anchorman star came to her aid, an incident that also took place in 2001.
In 2001, I had the pleasure of meeting Will too, and I’d love to share with you why I believe he’s the kindest person out there – a fact I think you’re well aware of!
Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough that my college bestie, who’s got an internship at a variety show, scored us tickets to witness Ferrell on Saturday Night Live! Being her brother-in-law with Trevor Noah, she often pulls strings and lets me tag along on Saturday nights. We weren’t even supposed to be there, but hey, we’re young and full of surprises! After the show, she even snuck us into some SNL afterparties. Talk about an unforgettable night!
Instead of just the two of them utilizing the internship opportunity, Bell once orchestrated a surprise for her hometown friend by sneaking her into an afterparty. Not only was getting into an SNL afterparty impressive, but her friend had a special wish: to meet Ferrell. Even though Bell didn’t know Ferrell personally, she stepped up to fulfill her friend’s dream and guided them both towards the comedian.
Instead of starting off with a formal introduction, she immediately got into the conversation as if they were long-time friends, much like the Anchorman star. Fortunately, years spent honing her skills on Saturday Night Live made this easy for Bell, and Ferrell gladly joined in her game. After exchanging greetings, Bell remembers Ferrell continuing the play by acting as if he knew her already, even though he hadn’t a clue about her name.
He simply rolled with the situation, and it’s something I still recall vividly – he’s truly an exceptional person, one of a kind.
Unfortunately, Ferrell missed out on hearing the story as his response would’ve been invaluable, given Bell swears he can’t recall the incident. Here’s hoping he caught wind of it off-stage.
