As a proud follower and admirer of Jahan Loh‘s mesmerizing art journey, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled about his latest collaboration with G-SHOCK! The red-hued DW-5600JAH24-4 watch is not just a timepiece, it’s a stunning testament to Jahan’s unique artistic vision that beautifully blends themes of AI, resilience, and the continuum of time.
After the debut of Jahan Loh’s solo exhibition titled “POSTCARDS FROM SPACE“, the multidisciplinary Singaporean artist has unveiled his upcoming creative project. In this new collaboration, Loh is teaming up with G-SHOCK to jointly produce a special edition DW-5600 watch that will be available in limited quantities.
The DW-5600JAH24-4 watch stands out with a bold red color that stretches from band to case. Although other G-SHOCK models have featured this shade previously, the vividness of this red is influenced by Loh’s recent artworks, which focus on AI, resilience, and the flow of time through the ages.
“A notable design aspect of the piece is its unique watch band, adorned with dragons and flames in a camouflage-like pattern. The dragon symbolism represents Loh’s Asian ancestry and also alludes to his Chinese zodiac sign.
In my gaming world, I’ve come across a design where the artist skillfully weaves fire-like patterns around a mystical figure, symbolizing his thrilling voyage of alternating between a forward-looking futuristic mindset and a deep connection to the past. To add the finishing touches, Loh’s iconic astronaut emblem is seamlessly integrated into the watch band and etched onto the back of the case, making it a true masterpiece that embodies both the present and the past.
On October 3rd, a unique pop-up sale will take place at the G-SHOCK ION store for this limited watch. Afterward, it will be accessible exclusively to CASIO_ID members through both physical and online stores in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and China. The standard edition is priced at approximately $178 USD (or SGD 229), while the special Spaceman-themed version is retailing for around $209 USD (or SGD 269).
