Batman Villains Bane, Deathstroke Getting Movie Treatment at DC Studios (Exclusive)

As a die-hard DC fan who has seen my fair share of comic book adaptations, I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of seeing Bane and Deathstroke sharing the silver screen together! Their respective backstories and the unique challenges they pose make them the perfect duo for an action-packed adventure.

In the upcoming weeks, we’ll see the high-budget release of the Joker movie, while a Penguin series on HBO has already been revealed. This has sparked interest in shining a light on some other DC villains as well.

As a diehard gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share! According to what insiders are spilling, Bane and Deathstroke, two formidable villains from DC Comics, are reportedly set to team up in an upcoming movie. This project is being spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios, with Matthew Orton, a talented writer working on the next Captain America flick, developing the script for this epic collaboration.

There is no director on the project.

Bane first emerged as one of Batman’s main adversaries in the 1990s, having been brought to life by writer Chuck Dixon and artist Graham Nolan. This character grew up inside a prison on an imaginary Caribbean island, which provided him with ample opportunity to master his brutal combat skills while learning from various international criminals. Subsequently, he underwent a grotesque steroid treatment, an experiment that made him extraordinarily powerful but also dependent on the drug’s concoction.

The character made his mark in an epic storyline titled “Knightfall,” in which he brutally broke Batman’s back, a story that catapulted him to the upper rankings of Bat-villains. The character has appeared in numerous video games and TV series, and was notably portrayed by a muffled Tom Hardy in the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Back in the ’80s, I was initially introduced as a formidable foe for the Teen Titans. Over time, this super-enhanced master assassin known as Deathstroke has skyrocketed to become one of DC’s fan favorites. I’ve had my fair share of confrontations with heavyweights like Batman and the Justice League, and even starred in my own comic series on multiple occasions.

I, a fanatic admirer of the character crafted by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, have seen this iconic figure appear in various video games, animated shows, and even live-action series like Titans with Esai Morales portraying him. Notably, Joe Manganiello made an appearance as the one-eyed assassin in some of Zack Snyder’s DC movies. In a previous timeline, he was slated to be the antagonist in The Batman during Ben Affleck’s directorial tenure. Interestingly enough, there were plans for him to headline a Deathstroke movie under the guidance of Gareth Evans, the brilliant mind behind The Raid.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. have achieved significant success in making villains the focus of their films. A prime example is the movie “Joker,” directed by Todd Phillips, which offered a fresh perspective on the Clown Prince of Crime. This film garnered over $1 billion at the box office and won Oscars for both Joaquin Phoenix’s acting performance and Hildur Guðnadóttir’s composition. The sequel, titled “Joker: Folie a Deux,” was premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will be released on October 4.

Colin Farrell is headlining “The Penguin,” a standalone series that’s a spinoff from Matt Reeves’ 2022 movie “The Batman.” The eight-episode show received positive feedback when it premiered on September 19th on HBO.

In three films, Harley Quinn, an unconventional heroine, has been portrayed by Margot Robbie. One of these movies is the 2021 film “The Suicide Squad,” directed by James Gunn, where both the character and the actress thrived, making it a successful pairing.

However, crafting villains who are captivating enough to headline a movie that viewers would gladly watch requires skill. The foundational element, unsurprisingly, is the script.

Orton’s resume is packed with hard-hitting work focused on criminals and murderers. His first credited work was in crafting the script for Operation Finale, a true story about the operation to apprehend Adolf Eichmann, one of the key figures responsible for the Holocaust. Chris Weitz directed this film, which featured Oscar Isaac and Ben Kingsley as its main stars.

Apart from that, he is responsible for producing “Devil’s Peak,” a chilling crime mini-series in the realm of serial killers, produced by South Africa’s DSTV. He also has a hostage thriller titled “Cleaner” under his belt, featuring stars like Clive Owen and Daisy Ridley. This production is currently wrapped up. Additionally, he received recognition for his work on Marvel’s “Moon Knight” television series, and was rehired to write reshoots for the upcoming movie titled “Captain America: Brave New World.” This film focuses on terrorism and will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day in 2025.

Orton is repped by WME, Grandview, and Johnson Shapiro.
