As a fan who’s seen more TV than I care to admit, I can confidently say that Hulu’s “How To Die Alone” is a breath of fresh air. It’s not just about laughs and drama, it’s about life, struggles, and finding oneself – something we all can relate to. Natasha Rothwell shines as Mel, a character who, unlike most TV leads, isn’t pretending to have her life figured out. She’s relatable, raw, and real.
2024 TV Schedule has just welcomed Hulu’s “How To Die Alone,” a fresh, engaging dramedy that you simply can’t afford to miss! In this captivating eight-episode series, Natasha Rothwell, who charmed us in “The White Lotus,” takes on the role of Mel, a resilient JK employee. After brushing with death, Mel experiences a transformation in her outlook on life and receives unexpected guidance from a departed friend. Despite encountering hurdles at every turn, Mel gradually overcomes them, making for an unforgettable journey you won’t want to miss!
While it’s not currently considered among the most groundbreaking black comedies from the past ten years, Hulu’s original could easily earn that title if granted another season on their streaming platform. I wholeheartedly hope for its continued success, and let me explain why.
I Need To Know What Happens After That Cliffhanger Ending
Following an unintended mix-up of belongings with a late roommate at the hospital, Mel unexpectedly comes across the elderly woman’s credit card. In keeping with the life advice the woman once shared, she decides to utilize this card for booking a vacation to Maui, aiming to attend her former partner’s wedding on New Year’s Day. Remarkably, Mel manages to carry out this unauthorized transaction without being caught throughout the entire season, eventually sharing her secret exploit with others.
Unfortunately, her criminal actions come back to haunt her as she is apprehended by the police upon returning to JFK following her journey. The series finale leaves viewers curious about a variety of questions, such as what will become of her and whether or not anyone informed on her to the police.
A compelling cliffhanger makes a strong case for Hulu to continue airing the series, yet history shows that streaming platforms often terminate shows prematurely, leaving fans wanting more. Fervently hoping that “How to Die Alone” won’t become another short-lived production.
There’s So Much Romantic Potential For All The Characters
In the intriguing series titled “How to Die Alone“, there’s an unexpected abundance of romantic entanglements. Throughout the eight episodes, Mel encounters at least three distinct admirers. By the finale, it appears she might have come to terms with Terrance (KeiLyn Durrel Jones) as a potential life partner, making their relationship progression in a potential second season an exciting prospect for fans rooting for them, like myself.
Beyond Mel’s romantic entanglements, there are several other love stories and potential conflicts brewing in upcoming seasons. Firstly, it remains uncertain whether Alex (Jocko Sims) will indeed tie the knot, leaving his future relationships undecided. Secondly, Kay (Elle Lorraine) is developing feelings for one of the airport staff members, adding a new layer to the romance spectrum. Lastly, I’m eager to explore more about Rory’s (Conrad Ricamora) relationship with the charismatic businessman, as their interactions have been limited since Mel and Rory had their fallout.
Although “How to Die Alone” isn’t your typical romantic comedy, the theme of love certainly permeates throughout, and I eagerly anticipate its growth in a potential second season.
Mel Is A Relatable Character With A Story We Don’t See Enough On TV
Among the appealing factors that make the show compelling enough for another season are its humor, drama, and romance. However, what truly sparks my enthusiasm for a second season is the necessity to bring more narratives similar to Mel’s into existence.
Unlike many characters on TV who seem to have their lives perfectly in order or merely give that impression, Mel acknowledges that her life isn’t turning out as she had imagined. Across the eight episodes, she navigates this disillusionment and discovers ways to transform it into constructive actions, ultimately seeking to create the life she desires.
It’s not always the case that people find their ideal career and soulmate by their twenties, as depicted on many TV shows. The series “How to Die Alone” resonates with those who identify with Mel because it acknowledges this reality. Ultimately, my hope is for this show to thrive and continue beyond a second season, possibly even into a third and fourth.
With a Hulu or Disney+ subscription, you’re able to stream the movie titled “How to Die Alone.
