Outlander's Sam Heughan Warns That Relationships Will Be 'Put To Rest' In New Episodes, And There's One I Need To Survive

As a die-hard Outlander fan who’s been through the highlands with Claire and Jamie more times than I care to admit, I can’t help but feel a pang of anxiety as we approach the return of Season 7B. The wait has felt like an eternity, much like trying to navigate Culloden Moor on foot.

The much-anticipated continuation of Outlander Season 7 is almost here, if we consider a year’s delay as relatively short. Fans will have to wait until November 2024 at the earliest for Season 7B according to current TV schedules. However, actor Sam Heughan has shared some intriguing insights about relationships in the series, which are worth pondering as we approach the end of this hiatus. Among these comments, one relationship in particular that he mentioned needs to remain intact, according to him.

Sam Heughan discussed with Entertainment Weekly about the future for the Frasers following their return to Scotland at the end of Season 7’s midseason finale, and some of his hints are exciting for fans longing for the setting of earlier seasons… yet troubling in a different sense. This is especially true if you share my deep affection for the bond between Jamie and Lord John Grey. Heughan stated:

Jamie is here to resolve issues from the past, particularly regarding his past relationships. His ancestral roots lie in Scotland – a place that holds deep emotional significance for him. The allure of history draws them back. History may be unavoidable, and they’re soon going to find themselves even more enmeshed in the American Revolution. They won’t have much time for rest as they reconnect with old relationships and friendships or let go of them, while also forming new connections that will be tested and ultimately broken.

I want to join the group backing Jamie and Lord John’s friendship, which is being rekindled instead of left behind! I may not be well-versed in Diana Gabaldon’s original works just yet, but from what I gather, David Berry will return for Season 7B and share a scene with Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe. This suggests that their characters’ relationship will continue or revisit, so I’m excited to see more!

Admittedly, Lord John hasn’t been too significant a character in Season 7 to this point, as he only appeared in Episode 2 and ended on a high-stakes but tense note with Jamie. Still, with confirmation that David Berry is in the second half of Season 7 and Sam Heughan’s tease of the Frasers going back to the American Revolution, it’s very possible that the old friends will once again have to face being on opposite sides of a war that one of them knows is doomed for the other. Is “star-crossed friendship” a thing, after all the complications that they’ve endured?

As a long-time fan of Outlander, I must say that the romantic relationships in this show have always intrigued me, and Season 7 was no exception. In my humble opinion, Jamie and Claire’s bond remains unshakeable as they navigate their way through the second half of Season 7. Their love story is rock solid, and it feels safe to assume that they will continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
