Each fight showcases not only their incredible abilities but also their resilience and determination.
For more than a decade now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has remained vibrant and unyielding, with no hint of slowing its pace. Those who have followed the Marvel films sequentially have witnessed their beloved characters engage in numerous battles, some of which resulted in defeats. Despite the excitement surrounding upcoming Marvel productions, it’s worth noting that at least 32 instances exist where MCU heroes endured on-screen beatings – across both movies and television series.
Enthusiasts can’t get enough of arranging Marvel films based on their preferences, and a significant factor in this decision is typically the choreography of the action scenes. Despite the fact that good prevails in the end, our heroes (and even anti-heroes) often suffer some bruises before ultimately triumphing in the climactic fight. Here’s a list of 32 instances where our characters take a beating – keep in mind, this might contain spoilers for those less familiar with the MCU.
The Guardians vs Adam Warlock, The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
In the initial skirmish of Guardians 3, Adam Warlock arrives at Knowhere and delivers a fierce attack on the band of cosmic champions. Although no deaths were recorded by the end of the film, this first battle resulted in Groot momentarily losing his head, Nebula fracturing her arm, and both Drax and Nebula sustaining severe injuries.
Captain America vs Thanos, Avengers: Endgame
In “Avengers: Endgame”, the movie was brimming with action, particularly during the climactic battle against Thanos. Prior to the memorable portals sequence, Captain America engaged in a one-on-one fight with the Mad Titan and suffered some heavy blows. Fortunately, reinforcements arrived at the nick of time.
Iron Man vs Cap and Bucky, Captain America: Civil War
In “Captain America: Civil War,” the tarmac battle is undeniably memorable, but there are numerous other thrilling confrontations scattered throughout the movie. Among these is a three-way fight where Captain America and Bucky join forces against Iron Man, culminating in a heavy beating inflicted on Robert Downey Jr.’s character.
Hulk vs Hulkbuster, Avengers: Age Of Ultron
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Wanda Maximoff makes her debut, where the main antagonist assigns her a mission to shatter the mental fortitude of Earth’s strongest superheroes. By imprisoning several of them within their own minds, she successfully enrages The Hulk. Fortunately, Tony Stark had anticipated this scenario and employed the Hulkbuster armor to deliver repeated punches to The Hulk’s face until he succumbed to unconsciousness.
Yelena Vs. Kate, Hawkeye
In the series ‘Hawkeye’, Florence Pugh made her comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena, before being officially cast for the Thunderbolts team. Initially tasked with taking down Clint Barton, Yelena and Kate Bishop formed an unexpected bond instead. However, their friendship eventually gave way to a heated conflict, culminating in them engaging in a physical altercation together.
Ant-Man vs Kang, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
Before Jonathan Majors was dismissed as Kang, his character was being prepared to become a threat on par with Thanos within the MCU. First appearing in Loki, we encountered one of the antagonist’s malevolent versions in Ant-Man 3. In the final stages of that film, Scott Lang engages Kang in a solitary battle, suffering considerable damage during the encounter.
Thor vs Hulk, Thor: Ragnarok
Taika Waititi’s movie “Thor: Ragnarok” is widely regarded as the top chapter in Chris Hemsworth’s franchise series. It boasts numerous memorable scenes that unfold over its duration. For instance, Thor and Hulk have a reunion in an arena on Sakaar. However, it turns out poorly for Thor when he loses to Jeff Goldblum’s character, the Grandmaster, during their fight, as he is suddenly shocked mid-combat.
Iron Man vs Thanos, Avengers: Infinity War
In essence, Thanos is often considered the most formidable antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing frequently on this list while causing trouble for heroes. During the movie “Infinity War,” the heroes were divided into two fights, one of which took place on Titan, his former residence. Regrettably, none of them succeeded, and Tony Stark attempted to confront him alone, resulting in a wound inflicted upon him.
Hawkeye vs Black Widow, The Avengers
In the initial half of “The Avengers“, I found myself under Loki’s mind control as Hawkeye, leading me to engage in a fierce battle against my trusted ally, Black Widow. This confrontation between us non-superpowered heroes was intense and unfortunately, I ended up losing the skirmish as Clint Barton.
Captain America vs Captain America, Avengers: Endgame
Among the standout segments in “Avengers: Endgame”, The Time Heist is undeniably one of the finest. It’s chock-full of memorable scenes, such as when Captain America unintentionally collides with his 2012 counterpart, leading to an intriguing confrontation between two versions of the same hero. In the end, our beloved Captain America triumphs over himself, delivering a series of powerful blows (followed by a moment of self-appreciation, as he takes a moment to admire his own physique).
Thanos vs Everyone, Avengers: Infinity War
During the epic clash known as Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos squares off against a multitude of Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, with catastrophic consequences for the forces of good. This confrontation encompasses not only the battle on Titan but also the conflict in Wakanda, where he proves to be a formidable adversary, effortlessly fending off the heroes until he reaches Vision and Scarlet Witch.
Wanda vs Vision, Captain America: Civil War
In the initial scene of the movie, Wanda experiences a failed mission. Consequently, a significant portion of Captain America: Civil War finds her confined within the Avengers’ headquarters. It is Hawkeye who arrives to free her, and as a result, she employs her Magic of Chaos to make Vision sink into the earth literally.
Iron Man vs Rhodey, Iron Man 2
In the movie “Iron Man 2”, Don Cheadle took over Terrence Howard’s role as Rhodey. Notably, it was during a party that Rhodey initially put on one of Tony Stark’s suits for the first time. This event marked an unusual confrontation between the friends, but to everyone’s surprise, Rhodey emerged victorious from the fight.
Matt Murdock’s prison fight, Daredevil
Over the course of its three broadcast seasons, Daredevil gained a reputation for action-packed and adrenaline-pumping combat scenes. The hallway fight in Season 1 is arguably the most well-known, but Matt Murdock suffered some severe blows when Kingpin orchestrated a prison uprising against him.
Doctor Strange vs Kaecilius, Doctor Strange
In the initial “Doctor Strange” film, Benedict Cumberbatch’s character was depicted as finding it challenging to grasp the mystical skills. As he prepared to confront Mads Mikkelsen’s antagonist, Kaecilius, Stephen suffered a severe defeat and wound up hospitalized alongside Christine.
Spider-Man vs Vulture, Spider-Man: Homecoming

Regrettably, things escalated when Vision, in an unfortunate turn of events, fired a blast meant for Falcon but hit War Machine instead, causing severe harm.
Doctor Strange vs Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
In “Doctor Strange 2”, Wanda Maximoff reverted back to her villainous character, primarily due to the influence of the Darkhold corrupting her mind. Throughout the film, she repeatedly overpowers Stephen Strange on numerous occasions, even when he transforms into a zombie.
T’Challa vs Killmonger, Black Panther
The main storyline in Black Panther centers around determining who will take the throne of Wakanda following King T’Chaka’s demise. Initially, T’Challa bests M’Baku, but later on, Michael B. Jordan’s character, Killmonger, appears on the scene. In a turn of events, when deprived of the power granted by the heart-shaped herb, T’Challa is defeated and appears to perish after being hurled over a waterfall.
White Vision vs Vision, WandaVision
In “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Paul Bettany’s character, Vision, initially appears to be one of the most formidable Avengers. However, throughout subsequent films like “Civil War,” “Infinity War,” and “Endgame,” he didn’t get many opportunities to demonstrate his full potential. He was restrained during the tarmac battle in “Civil War,” injured early in “Infinity War,” and deceased throughout “Endgame.” Therefore, it was enjoyable to see him engage in a confrontation against White Vision in the final episodes of “WandaVision,” even taking some hits in the process.
Captain Marvel vs Thanos, Avengers: Endgame
In the climactic scenes of Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson, experienced her debut significant crossover event, squaring off against Thanos not once but twice. Although it seemed like Thanos held the advantage during the final battle, he ultimately employed the Power Stone to hurl Captain Marvel away.
Hawkeye vs Yelena, Hawkeye
In the series “Hawkeye”, Florence Pugh reprised her role as Yelena, the sister of Black Widow (Natasha), who was tasked with eliminating Clint following Natasha’s demise. Their confrontation culminated in a fierce battle during the finale, with Yelena dishing out a good measure of retribution before they ultimately resolved their differences.
Shang-Chi vs Xialing, Shang-Chi
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Shang-Chi marked Simu Liu’s debut. The film showcased impressive fight sequences throughout its duration. During one of these exhilarating battles, the protagonist, Shang-Chi, confronted his sister Xu Xialing in an arena, and she handed him a decisive defeat.
Falcon vs Ant-Man, Ant-Man
In the initial Ant-Man film, Paul Rudd’s character was predominantly involved in a self-contained narrative. However, it introduced an entertaining crossover when he was tasked with robbing the Avengers’ base, leading to a skirmish with Falcon. Remarkably, he succeeded in outmaneuvering the airborne Avenger.
Logan vs Wade, Deadpool & Wolverine
In the film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s playful rivalry was evident, and their on-screen dynamic sparkled brilliantly. They exchanged blows several times during the movie, notably during the intense, blood-splattering brawl in a car.
Loki vs Hulk, The Avengers
Initially portrayed as an antagonist, Loki has earned a more sympathetic image through his show on Disney+. Moreover, it was during The Avengers that he gained his most memorable L, enduring Hulk’s rough handling.
Bucky vs Everyone, Captain America: Civil War
About a third of the way into “Captain America: Civil War,” sneaky guy Helmut Zemo triggers something in Bucky, my favorite Winter Soldier. What followed was one heck of a fight – him against Tony, Natasha, T’Challa, and Sharon Carter, who were all unarmed at the time. If you ask me, things might have gone differently if they had their usual gear, but watching them struggle and ultimately fail to bring down Bucky Barnes was one exciting spectacle!
The Illumanati vs Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
In “Doctor Strange 2,” the beloved character Wanda Maximoff displays a destructive streak, resulting in an alarmingly high number of casualties. At her peak, she is unstoppable when confronting The Illuminati. Remarkably, The Scarlet Witch dispatches them swiftly one after another. Reed Richards was transformed into pasta, Black Bolt’s powers were turned against him, Wanda used Captain Carter’s shield to take her life, and she even overpowered that universe’s Captain Marvel.
The Prison Fight, The Punisher
Netflix’s Marvel Cinematic Universe series had some intense moments, particularly “Daredevil” and “The Punisher.” The latter featured John Bernthal as Frank Castle, whose title character endured heavy blows in a prison fight where he single-handedly defeated numerous adversaries without any equipment. It’s a gruesome yet exhilarating spectacle, as it infuses the action of “Daredevil” into “The Punisher.
Valkyrie vs Gorr, Thor: Love And Thunder
In the climactic fight scene from Thor: Love and Thunder, our trio of heroes squares off against Christian Bale’s character, Gorr. Dressed entirely in black, Gorr proves formidable, overpowering each hero, resulting in Valkyrie receiving a wound. However, the King of New Asgard miraculously survived and managed to make an appearance in a brief role during The Marvels.
Carol Danvers vs Yon-Rogg, Captain Marvel
In the first film titled “Captain Marvel”, we were taken on a trip through time to witness Carol Danvers’ transformation into a superhero. Initially, Brie Larson’s character was perplexed about her past and her enigmatic powers. During a sparring match with her mentor Yon-Rogg, portrayed by Jude Law, she struggled significantly and lost the fight swiftly. However, in the finale of “Captain Marvel”, she effortlessly defeated him.
If anything, this list proves that everyone takes an L sometimes.
