As a long-time gaming enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of sports personalities venturing into media production, I find the news about Charles Barkley launching Round Mound Media truly exhilarating! With his unique perspective and charismatic personality, he has always been a captivating figure in the world of basketball and beyond.
Legendary basketball star Charles Barkley is embarking on a fresh journey in entertainment, aiming to make his mark across scripted shows, documentaries, and live broadcasts.
Legendary NBA player-turned-TNT Sports analyst, Charles Barkley, is set to establish Round Mound Media in collaboration with EverWonder Studio. The venture will receive support from Jeff Zucker’s RedBird IMI. In this new endeavor, Barkley’s longtime manager, Marc Perman, will assume the role of president for Round Mound, as well as continuing his responsibilities at his management company.
TNT Sports has secured a first-look agreement with Round Mound (a nickname for Charles Barkley), who has confirmed his dedication to remain as an on-screen commentator with the company, even if their NBA broadcast rights undergo changes. Currently, TNT has 10 projects in the pipeline, including a “definitive” documentary chronicling Barkley’s life story.
In his statement, Barkley expressed that Round Mound Media serves as a platform for him to express captivating, unique stories aimed at engaging global audiences. He’s been seeking projects and connections that enable him to stay true to himself and, ideally, contribute positively to the world. EverWonder Studio is an ideal collaborator in providing a creative environment where he can take this vision to new heights. Fans will be thrilled with what we have planned, and Barkley is eager to begin this new endeavor.
Last year saw the debut of EverWonder, spearheaded by Ian Orefice, a former chief at Time Studios. This venture is uniquely supported by Zucker’s RedBird IMI. The company has emphasized creating content related to sports, with intentions to introduce an event, the Players Era Festival, that centers around Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in college sports.
Barkley and Zucker have a history together, dating back to when Zucker was at WarnerMedia, where he oversaw both CNN and Turner Sports.
In his statement, Orefice expressed that Charles has become a significant figure in the realm of sports media. He further explained that this collaboration aims to amplify Charles’ experience and love for storytelling even more. He added that they are thrilled and eager to support and team up with Charles and Marc on this new adventure, particularly given the vibrant context of sports and the global environment today.
In this fresh collaboration, we’ve gained the support of a studio that appreciates and shares Charles’s artistic vision. This partnership will help take his innovative concepts to new heights,” said Perman. “EverWonder is an ideal ally to magnify Charles’s unique perspective in a manner never seen before by fans and viewers. We can hardly wait to share these upcoming projects with the world.
