As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for dissecting the intricacies of cinema and its stars’ careers, I must say that the upcoming collaboration between Kirsten Dunst, Channing Tatum, and Derek Cianfrance in ‘Roofman’ is an exciting development. The film’s unique premise, coupled with the stellar pedigree of its cast and crew, promises to deliver a riveting tale that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Actress Kirsten Dunst is collaborating with Channing Tatum and director Derek Cianfrance for the movie titled ‘Roofman’. The story revolves around Jeffrey Manchester, a man infamously known as the “Rooftop Robber” or simply “Roofman”. His nickname originates from his method of breaking into over 60 McDonald’s restaurants through the rooftops and locking staff in the freezers. Despite his non-violent nature, he managed to elude the police for months during a prolonged chase after the burglaries. The film portrays Manchester’s life on the run from the authorities following these break-ins.

Based on Deadline’s report, Margot Dunst is set to portray a Toys “R” Us worker striving to care for her two children. It’s believed that this story takes place in the same North Carolina Toys “R” Us store where The Roofman eluded authorities for several months and subsisted on baby food. In this film, Channing Tatum plays the character of The Roofman, while Derek Cianfrance handles both writing and directing duties.

Previously, Manchester, a former U.S. Army officer, was imprisoned for 45 years following a robbery at two stores with a rifle. He managed to escape from the prison by concealing himself under an outgoing truck. Subsequently, he thumbed a ride to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he chose to hide in a Toys “R” Us store. As the holiday season approached, he shifted his hiding place to an abandoned Circuit City store located nearby. Eventually, he was apprehended once more when his fingerprint was discovered on a DVD of Steven Spielberg’s fittingly titled movie, Catch Me If You Can.

Following her highly praised portrayal in Alex Garland’s “Civil War,” where she plays a renowned photojournalist documenting the atrocities of war, Dunst is now making headlines. This movie, budgeted at $50 million, earned a global box office revenue of $122.5 million, placing it among A24’s most financially successful films. Notably, Dunst was previously recognized with an Academy Award nomination for her role in the 2021 film “The Power of the Dog,” where Jane Campion garnered the Best Director award.

After a gap of three years between the two films, and now another hiatus following “Civil War” and “Roofman,” Kirsten Dunst has become selective about her acting choices. In a conversation with Variety, she shared that she prefers not to take up roles solely for financial reasons.

She mentioned that she’s particular about what she takes on, which means she often has extended periods of downtime without work. For her, it’s not just about the money; a project needs to resonate deeply with her feelings for her to commit, as she’s been in this line of work for quite some time and can only give her best when passion is involved.

Kirsten Dunst gained considerable popularity due to her portrayal of Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, but she did not reprise her role for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although she expressed openness to returning, the filmmakers didn’t contact her about it. It appears that her character has likely run its course in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so her next on-screen appearance will be in Roofman.
