Watch the Coperni x Disney ‘Ariel Swipe Bag’ 3D-Print Inside of Liquid Gel

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for all things futuristic, I must say that the Coperni SS25 collection has truly piqued my interest. The 3D printed Swipe Bag, crafted in collaboration with Disney and Rapid Liquid Print, is nothing short of mind-blowing. The gravity-free production method used here is a game-changer in the world of manufacturing, reminiscent of the advanced fabrication techniques we see in sci-fi games like No Man’s Sky or Star Citizen.

Coperni’s announcement that their SS25 show would be held at Disneyland Paris sparked anticipation due to the French brand’s love for forward-thinking fashion designs. Yet, one of the collection’s standout features transcends any traditional runway spectacle – a 3D printed bag in Disney’s signature blue, dubbed the Swipe Bag. Collaborating with an MIT-linked lab called Rapid Liquid Print (RLP), Coperni and Disney reinvented the viral Swipe Bag design.

The unique characteristic of RLP’s method sets it apart from traditional 3D printing techniques because it creates the product by extracting it from within a gel suspension rather than relying on gravity. This gel-encased process is advantageous for producing flexible rubber, foam, and plastic items swiftly, since it operates independently of the gravitational forces that typically affect conventional 3D manufacturing.

Coperni consistently grabs attention due to its bold innovations in cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. In their SS23 showcase, model Bella Hadid served as the backdrop for a revolutionary dress that was applied like paint, using Fabrican – a sprayable liquid fabric.

3D printing technology has made significant progress since its initial emergence at the start of the 21st century. Beyond the realm of fashion, companies like Austin’s ICON are already using this technology to quickly print homes on vacant lots. Recently, A$AP Rocky and PUMA unveiled the Mostro, a 3D printed shoe with a perforated resin exterior. As the technology evolves, it’s exciting to contemplate what innovative ideas other brands might bring to fruition in the future.
