Sean Astin to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Elf The Musical’

As a gamer with a soft spot for cinema, I must say, I’m absolutely thrilled about Sean Astin‘s Broadway debut! From Mikey Walsh to Samwise Gamgee, he’s been a constant companion in my entertainment journey. Now, imagine him as Santa Claus on the grand stage of The Marquis Theatre! It’s like Christmas came early!

Sean Astin will make his Broadway debut this season in Elf The Musical.

Astin is set to portray Santa, while Grey Henson, a Tony Award nominee known for his roles in “Mean Girls” and “Shucked”, will take on the role of Buddy the Elf. The musical is scheduled to premiere at The Marquis Theatre from November 9th, with the opening night slated for November 17th.

Sean Astin is widely recognized for his memorable performances in films such as Mikey Walsh from “The Goonies”, Rudy, Samwise Gamgee in the “Lord of the Rings” series, Doug Whitmore in “50 First Dates”, and Bob Newby on “Stranger Things”.

The performance, inspired by the 2003 movie featuring Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, and James Caan, is set for a brief run until January 4th. This production tells the story of Buddy, who was brought up by Santa’s elves, as he embarks on a journey to discover his real identity in New York City.

This musical that initially played at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End has actually been performed on Broadway not once but twice previously. The production is scripted by Thomas Meehan, who is known for works such as “Annie”, “The Producers”, and “Hairspray”, and Bob Martin, whose credits include “The Drowsy Chaperone”, “Smash”, and “Boop! The Musical”. The music in this show is created by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, the same duo responsible for hits like “The Prom” and “The Wedding Singer”.

The Broadway show is led by director Philip Wm. McKinley, known for “The Boy From Oz” and “Spiderman: Turn OffThe Dark”, and features choreography by Liam Steel, who has worked on the production of “Company”.

Temple Live Entertainment North America and Crossroads Live North America are responsible for staging the Broadway performance.

The Broadway show’s scenery and costumes will be designed by Tim Goodchild, the lights by Patrick Woodroffe, the audio by Gareth Owen, and the videos by Ian William Galloway.
