Inside Hypeform and Time&Space's "Infinite Space" Film Screening

As a lifelong enthusiast of architectural marvels and a connoisseur of design, I must say that Hypeform‘s collaboration with Time&Space for the John Lautner film screening was an absolute dream come true. The event was a perfect blend of the past and present, showcasing Lautner’s timeless vision in a setting filled with contemporary icons.

In the latter half of this year, summertime holds special importance for Hypeform – a division of TopMob focused on design – because exactly at this time last year, we debuted our platform by introducing the initial edition of the Hypeform A-Z of Design.

However, not just July and August pass by, as these months are also dedicated to readying for the London Design Festival, which typically takes place around mid-September. This year was particularly significant, as Hypeform organized its inaugural event in London, in partnership with design studio Time&Space, showcasing a film screening.

Established by photographers Armand Da Silva and Tyler Phoenix, Time&Space focuses on procuring and advisory services for furniture, while also providing a vast collection of their own for prop rental. Situated in Deptford, South East London, this expansive three-story building showcases both classic and modern design pieces – from Toogood’s Roly Poly chair to the collapsible Plia Chair.

The documentary titled “Infinite Space: The Architecture of John Lautner” provided viewers with an immersive exploration of the renowned architect’s works, including insights from residents living within these structures as well as construction assistants.

Throughout his professional journey, Lautner gained recognition for his forward-thinking, frequently futuristic design aesthetic. The majority of his architectural works can be found in and around Los Angeles, yet it was the scenery of his childhood home in Michigan that repeatedly sparked his creativity.

Lautner’s buildings have often found themselves in the spotlight of music videos and films, possibly due to their close proximity to LA and their unique architectural designs. Notably, the Sheats-Goldstein Residence, constructed between 1961 and 1963, has been a favored location for filmmakers – it’s appeared in scenes from “Let’s Get Blown” featuring Pharrell and Snoop Dogg, Doja Cat’s “Say So”, and The Big Lebowski, among others.

Visitors stepped into the venue where they had the freedom to select their preferred seating for the remainder of the night, as there were numerous renowned figures to choose from, making it a challenging choice. Refreshments were provided by Something & Nothing and Mull It Over, while the movie selection was graciously supplied by the John Lautner Foundation directly.
