Brittany O’Grady Says Her Mother Hated Her White Lotus Character

Brittany O'Grady Says Her Mother Hated Her White Lotus Character

As a follower and admirer of Brittany O’Grady‘s acting prowess, I am thrilled to witness her transformation from the edgy and unlikable Paula in “The White Lotus” to the vulnerable Shelby in “It’s What’s Inside.” It seems that Brittany thrives on playing characters far removed from her own self, which is both intriguing and captivating.

Brittany O’Grady will always cherish the memory of her standout performance as Paula in Season 1 of “The White Lotus,” primarily because the character was so divisive. As she explained to MovieWeb during an exclusive interview promoting her upcoming Netflix thriller, “It’s What’s Inside”, “Paula wasn’t exactly a favorite among fans.” In fact, her mother didn’t particularly care for the character either. Many people who are significantly taller than O’Grady expressed dislike towards Paula, with some even becoming visibly angry about the character.

It’s clear why Paula behaved that way. Being Olivia’s (Sydney Sweeney) school friend, Paula was often sarcastic and impolite. She had a distinct perspective on life. Eventually, she persuaded islander Kai (Kekoa Scott Kekumano) to steal some jewelry from Olivia’s family, exchanging it for cash within the local community. This act led to questionable consequences, as Paula chose not to help Kai when he was caught, making her an unsympathetic character.

O’Grady mentioned that he often chooses roles that contrast his real self. He found playing Shelby in ‘It’s What’s Inside’ particularly exciting as it offered him an opportunity to portray vulnerability in a romantic context, which is not typically easy for him.

From Edgy Comedy to Dark Thriller

Brittany O’Grady’s latest movie, titled “It’s What’s Inside,” will debut on Netflix on October 4. Similar to “The White Lotus,” it showcases a diverse cast, focusing on the apathy prevalent among younger generations, but with a much more ominous tone. In this story, a group of college friends gather in a secluded location to commemorate a friend’s upcoming nuptials. However, the atmosphere changes dramatically upon the arrival of an unwelcome visitor carrying a briefcase containing a peculiar gadget – a game-like mystery device. The surprise? This device enables individuals to swap bodies at random.

In the movie, Greg Jardin takes on both writing and directing duties. The talented cast includes James Morosini from “I Love My Dad,” Gavin Leatherwood known for “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” Nina Bloomgarden from “The Resort,” Alycia Debnam-Carey famous for “Fear the Walking Dead,” Reina Hardesty best recognized in “Brockmire,” Devon Terrell, who starred in “Totally Completely Fine,” and David Thompson, well-known for “Panic.

When it comes to Shelby, a character deeply influenced by others, as O’Grady shared, he expressed his enthusiasm. He chose to be part of It’s What’s Inside because he anticipated working alongside other talented, fearless actors who were up for the challenge.

Brittany O’Grady Plays a ‘Softer, More Vulnerable Side’ of Herself

This suspenseful story delivers a strong impact, using techniques such as split screens, rapid transitions, intense tension, and an ominous ambiance within a perplexing manor. The central concept of the game involves swapping bodies, where participants must identify others accurately by wearing pictures of their true selves. However, deception is possible. Consequently, prepare for underlying truths to surface and numerous unexpected turns. Regarding this endeavor, O’Grady added:

I truly enjoy collaborating with groups, and it’s rewarding for me to perform characters who have a tender, exposed aspect. While I wouldn’t say I’m exactly like Shelby, there are definite pieces of my personality that resonate with every character I play. It was a unique experience for me to express the softer, more vulnerable side that I share with Shelby.

Don’t miss out on the side of her and several others that I’m eagerly anticipating in ‘It’s What’s Inside’, streaming on Netflix starting October 4. Here’s a link to watch it:
