YouTuber MrBeast Gets Inspired from ‘Ready Player One’, To Release Videos Post Death

As an analyst with years of experience in the digital content industry and having closely followed the rise and fall of many internet personalities, I find MrBeast’s plans for a post-mortem YouTube presence both fascinating and somewhat reminiscent of a modern-day James Halliday from “Ready Player One.

YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson, also known as MrBeast, has unveiled his ambition to maintain his dominance on YouTube beyond his physical existence. In an intriguing twist reminiscent of the fictional world in Steven Spielberg’s film “Ready Player One,” where the creator of virtual reality, James Halliday, left behind a digital legacy, MrBeast has disclosed his own strategies for a posthumous digital presence.

In their latest podcast, KSI and Logan Paul interviewed MrBeast, who discussed YouTuber Nikocado Avocado. Previously, he had tricked the internet by posting pre-recorded videos over two years without warning, only to shock everyone with his transformation. When it was revealed that MrBeast intended to release videos after his own death, many social media users noticed a striking resemblance between this plan and the main storyline of the 2018 sci-fi film ‘Ready Player One.’ In this movie, a well-known video game creator unveiled an intricate in-game treasure hunt through a series of videos after his own demise.

In the podcast, MrBeast disclosed a similar arrangement he’s set up. He has pre-recorded fifteen videos which will be released following his demise. He hinted that specific individuals within his organization are aware of their locations on his old computer.

MrBeast mentioned that he typically uploads a single video each month. Yet, he playfully pointed out that these videos are not of high quality. In fact, on one occasion, all he did was sit at a table, open an old email from a fan, and was unsure about its content.

In a typically jovial manner, MrBeast playfully hints that the title of the initial video will be “My Final Video.” These videos feature him speaking directly to his viewers, humorously commenting, “I might be relaxing in a coffin at this moment, so don’t worry about me, I’m already deceased.

The deceased content creator’s approach to posthumous content shares striking resemblance to the “digital legacy” idea portrayed in the movie “Ready Player One”. This strategy keeps up the impression that MrBeast is still actively engaged with his audience, much like a contemporary version of Halliday.

Starting back in 2012, the MrBeast YouTube channel saw its subscriber count soar to an impressive 318 million, making it the largest channel on YouTube ever. Yet, with great fame comes significant issues as well; lately, he has found himself at the center of a heated controversy and even a class action lawsuit.

In September 2024, a total of five people initiated a legal action against MrBeast, accusing him of mishandling contestants. The allegations include underpayment and substandard working conditions. These issues are connected to his upcoming Amazon Prime series, “Beast Games,” which boasts a colossal budget of $100 million.
