As a die-hard fan of Mike Flanagan’s work, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about the news that HUSH is making its theatrical debut! It’s been a long wait since it first graced our screens back in 2016, and to finally have the chance to watch it on the big screen, approved by the mastermind himself, is truly a dream come true.
Fans of Mike Flanagan were overjoyed earlier this year when it was announced that his 2016 film, “Hush,” would be available digitally for the first time. The movie had been out of circulation for more than a year following its departure from Netflix, leading many to wonder when and where it might reappear. Thanks to Shout! Studios, the movie was given new life for its Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) premiere, sparking enthusiasm on social media. Now, there’s even more exciting news for Flanagan fans: “Hush” will have a theatrical release in the U.S. later this month.
Starting October 16 at 6:30 pm Pacific Time (9:30 pm Eastern Time), Shout! Studios will unveil a freshly-restored version of HUSH, personally approved by Flanagan, for a brief theatrical run. To make this event even more enticing, there will be a live Q&A session with the director and the film’s co-writer and lead actress, Kate Siegel. This interactive discussion will be broadcasted to cinemas across the country. The Q&A is scheduled to take place at Vidiots in Eagle Rock, California, directly following the screening, so it’s advisable to check your local listings to see if it’s playing near you and avoid missing out on this exciting opportunity to participate in all the celebrations.
The movie “HUSH” features Siegel as a secluded deaf author living in the forest, who finds herself in a life-threatening situation when an unknown assailant invades her home through the window. This film is often praised as one of Flanagan’s best works, boasting a high approval rating of 93% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a satisfactory 73% from viewers.
HUSH Is Available to Stream Once Again
In 2016, the movie HUSH debuted on Netflix after being leased for a seven-year term. After this period ended, the rights to the film reverted back to its creator, Mike Flanagan, who removed it from Netflix because he anticipated it would continue to be available as a streaming-exclusive title. As an advocate for physical media, Flanagan wished to provide fans with the opportunity to own it. He joined forces with Shout! Studios for both a Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) release and a physical release, which is distributed through Shout! Factory in a 4-Disc set that includes a wealth of bonus content. This collection includes the Shush Cut, a stunning black and white 4K restoration, along with commentary by Flanagan and Siegel.
Great news! After a brief hiatus, I recently discovered that the movie “HUSH” has made its way back to streaming platforms, just in time for the chilling autumn season. You can now enjoy it on Shudder. Interestingly enough, this is the first time in over a year and a half that it’s been available to watch via any service.
