Frasier Star Is ‘Not Going to Say No’ to Leading Their Own Spin-off

Frasier Star Is 'Not Going to Say No' to Leading Their Own Spin-off

As a devoted fan of the illustrious world of Cheers and Frasier, I find myself captivated by the promising prospects of a potential spin-off featuring none other than the enigmatic David Crane, portrayed by the talented Anders Keith. The idea of delving deeper into the life of this character, who holds the unique distinction of being the son of fan-favorite Niles and Daphne, is nothing short of exhilarating.

A rising star on the revamped Frasier, Anders Keith (who plays David Crane in Paramount+’s reboot), isn’t shy about potentially continuing Kelsey Grammer’s legacy and leading his own series someday. In an interview with Metro, Keith expressed that he would be open to further exploring his character within the Cheers and Frasier universe if a spin-off series were to materialize. When Metro suggested a possible spin-off titled ‘David’, Keith showed enthusiasm for the idea.

Absolutely! Definitely, let’s give it a try. The character seems promising to me, given he’s young and still undecided about his future. It’s intriguing to consider whether he might emulate his uncle Frasier, Niles, or his mother, which could lead to some interesting developments. His cousin is another factor to consider. There are many potential directions for this character, and we’re yet to determine the exact path. I believe it could be an exciting journey!

The discussion was initiated by Jean Smart revealing that she almost starred in a spin-off of Frasier, centered around her character Lana Gardner, whom she played for just seven episodes during the initial series. In an interview with Good Morning America in April, Smart disclosed that they had considered creating a spin-off featuring her and her son’s characters, but it was deemed impractical financially because they would have to compensate all the producers and creators of Frasier and Cheers for their involvement.

Will Daphne & Niles Return in the Frasier Sequel Series?

Originally debuting on NBC in 1993, “Frasier” started airing soon after the final episode of “Cheers.” In “Cheers,” Kelsey Grammer’s character, Dr. Frasier Crane, was first introduced to viewers. The comedy series followed Dr. Crane as he returned to his hometown of Seattle. Alongside Grammer, a talented cast played key roles: John Mahoney as the Crane family patriarch, Martin; David Hyde Pierce, who portrayed Frasier’s brother Niles; Jane Leeves, who played Daphne, Martin’s caregiver and later Niles’ wife; and Peri Gilpin, who was Frasier’s coworker Roz.

In the revival of the show, Gilpin is back in a recurring role, but Pierce and Leeves, whose characters are David’s parents (Niles and Daphne), have not made an appearance yet. Fans and critics alike would be thrilled to see them again, as they feel that the new series hasn’t quite reached the level of its predecessor. However, Pierce has stated before that the new show doesn’t “require” him, and he prefers not to commit to a series due to potential conflicts with other projects. Leeves, on the other hand, is busy with other obligations.

Observing some likenesses drawn between my depiction of David and the Emmy-winning performance of Niles by Pierce, I acknowledge those similarities but assure you that I bring a unique approach to my characterization, aiming to make David distinctively mine.

I’m truly touched, it’s quite an honor to be mentioned alongside such esteemed individuals. While I haven’t had the chance to witness it firsthand, my friends keep me well-informed by sharing what they’ve heard others say about me.

Right now, you can catch the ongoing second season of the revived “Frasier” series every Thursday on our streaming platform. The new episodes will run until November 14th. If you’d like to watch the original “Frasier,” it’s all available for streaming on Hulu, Disney+, and Paramount+.
