Agatha All Along Boss Confirms Debra Jo Rupp’s WandaVision Callback Is As Nightmarish As I Thought

Agatha All Along Boss Confirms Debra Jo Rupp's WandaVision Callback Is As Nightmarish As I Thought

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can confidently say that Debra Jo Rupp’s portrayal of Sharon in both WandaVision and Agatha All Along has been nothing short of captivating. Her ability to bring such depth and emotion to her characters, even amidst the darkest of moments, is truly commendable.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary transformation of Debra Jo Rupp from the beloved, yet underestimated TV mom in “That ‘70s Show” to her chilling portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since her debut in “WandaVision,” she’s been a captivating addition, but her character Sharon (or Mrs. Hart, as Agatha might call her) has brought an unexpected darkness to the 2024 Fall TV season, leaving us on the edge of our seats in both “WandaVision” and its sequel, “Agatha All Along.

In truth, she uttered what might be considered the most chilling line so far in the series starring Kathryn Hahn, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer hinted indirectly that it was a poignant reference back to the unsettling dinner scene featured in the first episode of WandaVision.

The WandaVision Callback

In Episode 3 of Agatha All Along, chaos ensued during the first trial. It appeared that most characters unknowingly consumed wine laced with some substance, causing them to temporarily distort their facial appearances and induce intense hallucinations about their deepest traumas. For instance, Jen remembered a possible figure who may have taken her powers away, while Agatha saw visions of the Darkhold instead of her son, etc.

Although the audience wasn’t transported into Sharon’s memories like in other depictions, the things she said left no room for doubt about her struggles, as she uttered the following before losing consciousness:

Please, please, Wanda. Wanda, I’m begging you. Let him breathe! Please!

Although the character hadn’t verbally uttered those specific words prior, it was clear that they resonated with viewers due to their connection to a scene in the series WandaVision, where Vision and Wanda hosted the Hart family for dinner. It was during this gathering that the reality of Wanda first started showing signs of strain. A peculiar incident occurred when Vision moved Mrs. Hart’s chair, leading to Fred Malamed’s character, Mr. Hart, choking on his food. This scene continued unsettlingly as Mrs. Hart was unable to do more than repeat the word, “Stop.

After the terrifying events come to an end and life returns to normal, some fans speculate that Mr. Hart passed away right there, and what followed at the dinner was a magical illusion orchestrated by Wanda. It’s plausible that Elizabeth Olsen’s character may have unintentionally caused his death, as Mrs. Hart is specifically asking Wanda to help him breathe again rather than praying for a miracle.

Agatha All Along’s Jac Schaeffer Addresses That Freaky Callback

In a conversation with THR about the busy opening episodes of ‘Agatha All Along’, showrunner Jac Schaeffer revealed that, when asked if Sharon could finally utter the unspoken words from that tragic dinner because of Wanda’s disruption, she responded:

In a different perspective, I’ve rarely considered it so bluntly, but I’d certainly agree. It appears she’s recalling that terrible incident instinctively, indeed.

Although we didn’t receive a definite confirmation that Mr. Hart passed away during the incident, its inclusion as one of Sharon’s most distressing memories suggests a somber implication from that event. Moreover, it remains unclear whether Mr. Hart accidentally suffocated on his food or if Wanda intentionally obstructed his airways. Given her ability to manipulate an entire town due to her personal sorrow, it isn’t too far-fetched a possibility.

As a fan of Agatha All Along, I can’t help but wonder if Debra Jo Rupp might reappear on the Witches’ Road, even though Sharon seems to have met her end. Could we see her pop up in another Marvel TV show instead? Only time will tell. For those of us with Disney+ subscriptions, new episodes drop every Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. ET. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
