London’s Cadogan Gallery Has a New Flagship Space

As a lifelong admirer of contemporary art and a frequent visitor to London’s vibrant gallery scene, I must say that the latest offering from Cadogan Gallery left me absolutely spellbound. Having followed its journey since its humble beginnings in 1980, it was a delight to witness the culmination of over four decades of artistic exploration and growth in one magnificent exhibition.

The Cadogan Gallery has moved to a new location and is commemorating this change by presenting one of its biggest group exhibitions yet. Entitled “Cadogan Gallery: A Group Exhibition“, the showcase displays works from 21 artists specializing in sculpture, painting, and textiles. Each artist contributes a tale about the gallery’s history, current state, and future prospects.

In 1980, Christopher Burness established Cadogan Gallery in a building he resided in on Pont Street, which served as his office for his publishing business as well. By borrowing some paintings from his friend Rafael Valls, he launched exhibitions on the ground floor, paving the way for numerous artists to follow suit and showcase their work thereafter.

Over a span of more than four decades, Christopher Burness’ children, Freddie and Katie, have carried forward his legacy by emphasizing contemporary abstract art. The exhibited works, ranging from Lorenzo Brinati’s sculptures to Andreas Diaz Andersson’s textile wall pieces, engage in discourse about form, space, and sensation. Notable mentions also go to Mimi Jung’s dynamic threaded arrangements, Tycjan Knut’s intricate geometric abstracts, and Maximilian Verhas’ organic bronze statues.

Cadogan Gallery: A Group Exhibition will be on view in London until February 8, 2025.
