Gaumont Animation, Studio 100 Greenlight New ‘Jungle Book’ Animated Series

As a seasoned gamer and animation enthusiast with a lifelong passion for the magical world of digital entertainment, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement bubbling within me at the news of yet another adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s timeless masterpiece, The Jungle Book. With Studio 100 International and Gaumont Animation teaming up to bring us “Jungle Book: Cub Club Adventures”, I can only imagine the captivating tales that await us in this new series.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’m teaming up with young German minds, Studio 100 International, and Gaumont Animation, for an exciting new animated series. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless classic, “The Jungle Book,” this project, provisionally named “Jungle Book: Cub Club Adventures,” is still in its early stages. It promises to delve into the captivating world of Mowgli before his eleventh birthday, offering a fresh perspective on this beloved tale.

Gaumont Animation and Studio 100, known for producing popular shows like Stillwater (Apple TV+), Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles (Netflix), Do, Re & Mi (Amazon), Maya The Bee, Vic the Viking, Heidi, and Mia & Me respectively, are planning to showcase their upcoming production at Cannes and the international television market Mipcom later this month. They are actively looking for potential production and financing partners to collaborate with.

Originating from Josh Fisher, the upcoming animated series titled “Jungle Book: Cub Club Adventures” is being designed as a collection of 52 episodes, each lasting 11 minutes. This engaging series is primarily intended for preschoolers and their loved ones, with storylines revolving around Mowgli’s escapades in the jungle alongside his young animal companions. These adventures will take place during a time prior to his appearance in previous adaptations of “The Jungle Book“.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the team bringing “Jungle Book: Cub Club Adventures” to life! This CGI animated series is being led by Richard Rowe at Studio 100 International, Terry Kalagian at Gaumont, and Josh Fisher from I Josh Around, all serving as executive producers. Can’t wait to see the magic unfold!

The show is the second production to emerge from the partnership between Studio 100 and Gaumont Animation, following the animated series “Ash,” which was made in conjunction with BigChild Entertainment. This collaboration, established last year, involves both companies producing and distributing a variety of children’s and family-oriented animated TV series and films.

Kipling’s “The Jungle Book,” initially published in 1894 and now free from copyright restrictions, is one of the most frequently adapted children’s series ever created. Beyond the numerous Disney film interpretations, ranging from Wolfgang Reitherman’s 1967 masterpiece to the live-action remakes by Stephen Sommers (1994), Nick Mark (1998), and Jon Favreau (2016), there is a live-action version from United Artists, directed by Zoltan Korda in 1942. More recent adaptations include “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle” (2018), directed by Andy Serkis for Netflix and Warner Bros., a darker take on the story. Additionally, there are Soviet-era shorts directed by Roman Davydov that were compiled into a full-length film titled “Adventures of Mowgli” in 1973.

There are several adaptations of this story on TV, such as Chuck Jones’ “Mowgli’s Brothers” from 1976, Fumio Kurokawa’s Japanese anime version titled “The Jungle Book,” the live-action series “Mowgli: The New Adventures of the Jungle Book” produced by Fox Kids in 1998, and DQ Entertainment’s 3D CGI series called simply “The Jungle Book,” which aired in 2010.
