Twinkle Khanna slams netizens cracking Akhiyon Se Goli Maare jokes after Govinda's gun accident: ‘Laughter is found at the expense of another’s misfortune’

As a long-time fan who has witnessed the dynamic duo of Twinkle Khanna and Govinda grace the silver screen, I must say their unique chemistry is something that resonates deeply with me. However, reading about the recent incident involving Govinda’s accidental shooting, I found myself pondering over a more profound aspect – the role of humor in our society.

In simpler terms, Bollywood actors Twinkle Khanna and Govinda shared a memorable on-screen chemistry despite only working together in two films. More recently, Twinkle Khanna responded to jokes about the movie “Akhiyon Se Goli Maare” following an incident where Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg. She referred to this as the ‘Superiority Theory,’ which essentially means people laugh at another’s misfortunes to feel superior.

In her article for The Times of India, Twinkle Khanna explored the realm of comedy and the influence comedians possess. Drawing from Govinda’s recent mishap as an example, she discussed how humor frequently focuses on the misfortunes others experience. She attributed this trend to the ‘Superiority Theory’, where people derive amusement by making light of those in less advantageous circumstances.

She penned, “Modern theorists tend to split jokes into three main categories. There is the Superiority Theory, where laughter is found at the expense of another’s misfortunes. This is perhaps why people enjoyed memes with ‘Akhiyon se goli maare’ when one of my favourite comedians, Govinda, accidentally shot himself in the leg.”

4:45 am saw an unfortunate accident involving actor Govinda, when his licensed revolver went off unintentionally as he was putting it away in a cupboard. This incident left a bullet wound that caused concern among his supporters. In response to their worries, Govinda addressed them via an audio message shared by Krishna Hegde, a leader from the Shiv Sena party.

In his communication, he expressed, “Greetings, respects. I am Govinda. It’s through your blessings, my parents’ blessings, and the blessing of my guru that… I was wounded, yet the bullet has been extracted. I express gratitude to the doctors here, particularly Dr. Garwal. Thank you for your prayers and support.

On October 4th, Govinda left the hospital following a remarkable recovery from an illness. In footage captured by photographers, the actor famously known as Hero No. 1 was spotted leaving in a wheelchair, his knee covered in a crepe bandage. His wife Sunita Ahuja, daughter Tina Ahuja, and several close relatives were with him. Even with his injury, Govinda warmly greeted the crowd with a broad grin, folded hands, and affectionate kisses.

In a heartfelt address, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to each one of you in the media and across the nation who have shown me unwavering support and prayers during my time of need. I am deeply moved by your kindness.
