As a lifelong fan of thrillers and horror films, I can confidently say that Brad Anderson is one of the most underrated filmmakers working today. His ability to create suspenseful, thought-provoking stories is second to none, and his latest project, “The Silent Hour,” is no exception.
Brad Anderson, though often overlooked, is a remarkable movie director. He has stealthily produced some of the century’s finest thrillers such as “Session 9”, “The Machinist”, “TransSiberian”, and “Beirut”. His latest work, “The Silent Hour“, is another exceptional action-thriller. This film focuses on a detective (Joel Kinnaman), who recently lost his hearing, finding himself trapped in an abandoned skyscraper with a deaf woman, both of whom are pursued by a dangerous gang. The movie showcases Anderson’s knack for creating tension and takes it to new heights through its innovative portrayal of deafness within the film. Following this, Anderson aims to complete his ongoing project – the last installment in George A. Romero’s zombie series, “Twilight of the Dead“. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Anderson shared:
“We’re currently at the stage of finalizing locations and details. This is quite exciting because it means we’re about to start filming, and this project will be different from ‘The Silent Hour’. We’re aiming to adapt a movie that George has written the treatment for, and which inspired the script, in a way that pays homage to the Romero franchise and the world he built.”
George Romero Planned a Final Movie for the Living Dead
Over half a century ago, Romero launched his pioneering sociopolitical horror series with 1968’s Night of the Living Dead. This filmmaker essentially introduced the modern concept of zombies to popular culture and went on to produce the timeless classic Dawn of the Dead and the unjustly overlooked and gruesome Day of the Dead. Years later, he revisited the franchise and produced a series of films that were both controversial and frequently criticized – namely Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead.
However, contrary to what some might think, the franchise wasn’t concluded; Romero had a concept outline and a portion of a script for a final film titled “Twilight of the Dead.” Unfortunately, he passed away before finishing it. Luckily, a director like Brad Anderson seems perfectly suited to bring this vision to life. As Anderson stated, “I’m planning to start work on it very soon.
“I see this as more of a concluding note for the franchise, but in a unique way – it’s how George A. Romero might have envisioned it wrapping up. It’d be fantastic if we could make it happen. What I aim to do is create a zombie movie that breaks away from the conventional mold, much like The Silent Hour transcends typical thrillers. I love crafting films that push genre boundaries and experiment with fresh ideas.”
Currently, Anderson’s latest movie featuring Joel Kinnaman, Sandra Mae Frank, and Mekhi Phifer titled “The Silent Hour” can be rented or purchased on various streaming services or digital platforms. This film is truly outstanding.
