Bowen said, ‘I’m not good at telling jokes because I’m not humorous,’ during his interview on The Three Questions with Andy Richter.

Initially, I almost skipped the audition for that role. In fact, I remember telling my team, “I don’t want to read scripts filled with one-liners.
Fortunately, her supervisors intervened and said, “To be honest, Helen Hunt isn’t particularly humorous.” Hunt won over audiences as Jamie in Mad About You, a series that spanned seven seasons during the 1990s before making a comeback for an eighth season in 2019.
Bowen remembered saying, ‘Helen Hunt has actually won five Emmys,’ and her managers replied affirmatively, noting that this means she’s amusing in an unique way, not your typical joke-a-minute funny. However, she is incredibly humorous. Aim to be like Helen Hunt.
When Richter suggested that Bowen must’ve discovered her sense of humor at some point, she replied, “You might have noticed I didn’t tell many jokes. I tripped up quite a bit instead.
The actress remarked that she believes her performance shines more on drama-comedy series, such as “Ed”. She explained, “That era of dramedy was prevalent.” At that point in time, shows like “Ally McBeal” were popular. These were hour-long programs featuring intense action followed by lighthearted, humorous scenes. It allowed for a variety of emotions to coexist simultaneously. Looking back, she noted that things have changed significantly since then.
In another part of the interview, Bowen admitted that she believed she wouldn’t land the role on “Modern Family” because she was expecting at the time of her audition. She expressed, “I didn’t think I got ‘Modern Family’ because I was so pregnant.” During her auditions, she was up for two roles, and she preferred “Modern Family”, but the other show’s character was already pregnant.
