As a long-time enthusiast of horology and a collector of Patek Philippe timepieces, today has been nothing short of exhilarating! The unveiling of the Cubitus collection marks a significant milestone for the esteemed Swiss watchmaker, as it’s their first new range in 25 years.


Today is an exceptional day within the watch community, as Patek Philippe, the renowned Swiss watchmaker, unveiled its long-awaited Cubitus collection – a fresh lineup of watches, marking the introduction of new models after a 25-year gap.

These models, specifically Ref. 5822P (blue/silver), Ref. 5821/1A (silver/green) and Ref. 5821/1AR (silver/gold), pay homage to the renowned Aquanaut and Nautilus collections from Patek Philippe. A closer look at their square faces with rounded corners, combined with their dials adorned with Nautilus-inspired horizontal bars and color schemes reminiscent of the Ref. 5711, solidifies this connection. As stated by Patek Philippe’s president Thierry Stern, these designs were intentionally created as a tribute to these iconic lines within the brand.

Stern mentioned to Bloomberg that they explored numerous distinct designs. He suggested, ‘Let’s revisit our origins, let’s reconnect with our fundamental characteristics. We have Aquanaut and Nautilus; I will utilize these to create a square watch.’ (paraphrased)

In terms of affordability, the Ref. 5821/1A serves as the starting point in this collection. This self-winding timepiece features a stainless steel case and bracelet encircling an olive dial, with a blend of satin and polished finishes that exude luxury. Its price tag stands at $41,244 USD. Moving up the ladder, we have the Ref. 5821/1AR, which is crafted from both rose gold and stainless steel. Its price reaches $61,276 USD. The most lavish watch in this series is the Ref. 5822P, boasting a platinum case, composite strap, and multiple subdials. This extravagant piece will cost you $88,317 USD.

In his discussion about the strategy, Stern stated, “Our aim is to attract a new group of clients without alienating our existing ones.” He further explained that this fresh demographic would consist of energetic and enterprising young individuals who are just starting their businesses. However, he emphasized that he wouldn’t abandon his older clientele; instead, he acknowledged that they might eventually phase out.
