However, let’s take a step back to 1998 when the actor found himself under intense scrutiny for several months following allegations of blackbuck poaching. This incident took place as he, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam were accused of hunting two Chinkaras near Jodhpur during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain. After a complaint was lodged by the Bishnoi community, Khan was apprehended and subsequently released on bail. Later on, Salim Khan, his father, publicly refuted any involvement of his son in this case.
In an interview with ABP Live, renowned author Salim Khan shared that his son, Salman Khan, has a deep affection for animals. To support this claim, the senior star explained that Salman would care for his pet dog during illness and was visibly emotional at its passing. Furthermore, when questioned about any involvement in hunting endangered species, Salman firmly denied it, stating he wasn’t present where such an incident occurred.
Salim Khan stated that Salman Khan won’t lie about this matter, as he doesn’t have a desire to hunt animals. Instead, he loves them. The report from The Economic Times reveals that the Bollywood star was found guilty under the Wildlife Protection Act and was given five years in prison, along with a fine of Rs 25,000.
In 2007, following seven days in Jodhpur Central Jail, the Rajasthan High Court suspended his sentence. Then, in 2016, that same court declared Salman’s innocence in the blackbuck and chinkara hunting charges of 1998 since no evidence was found linking Khan’s licensed firearm to the animals’ death. However, when the Rajasthan Government appealed this decision at the Supreme Court, the case resumed its course. In 2018, Salman was sentenced to five years in prison and fined Rs 10,000 while his co-actors went unpunished. Eventually, the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan actor received bail in the blackbuck hunting case.
