‘M3GAN 2.0’ Surprises at New York Comic Con: “See You Nerds in June”

As a die-hard horror fan with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming slate from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster is shaping up to be nothing short of a bloodcurdling spectacle! The prospect of seeing Leigh Whannell’s modern take on the Wolf Man and the chilling tale of The Woman in the Yard has me absolutely thrilled.

On Thursday, megaproducer Jason Blum and actress Allison Williams attended New York Comic Con, where they gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming sequel of M3GAN 2.0, produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. Additionally, fans got exclusive glimpses and fresh information about four other projects from the studio that are soon to be released.

For the second time at the east coast convention, Nicole Byer hosted while Mike Flanagan moderated an hour-long panel. They showcased sneak peeks and information on several upcoming projects. These include Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man, featuring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, The Woman in the Yard starring Danielle Deadwyler, Drop, produced by Blum and Michael Bay, and Fear the Spotlight, which is Blumhouse’s debut video game.

The gathering showcased the debut trailer for “Wolf Man”, Whannell’s recent monster narrative, serving as a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2020 release, “The Invisible Man”. In the segment dedicated to “The Woman in the Yard”, the spectators were given an exclusive sneak peek at the Jaume Collet-Serra movie. This film revolves around a perplexing woman cloaked in black veil who instills fear into a secluded farm family.

At BlumFest, participants got insights not only from the stage but also from Drop star Meghann Fahy and director Christopher Landon. They provided an in-depth analysis of their upcoming movie, which revolves around a single mother who receives menacing iPhone AirDrops on a first date. To add excitement, they unveiled a sneak peek at the film through fresh teaser footage. Later, during the Q&A session, stars Williams and Blum were joined by M3GAN, who expressed regret for being absent from the convention due to unavoidable reasons.

A section of the discussion shifted from films to video games, focusing on the debut release of Blumhouse’s venture into gaming, titled “Fear the Spotlight“. This game is set in an abandoned school where students met their untimely demise under mysterious circumstances. The story follows a group of young girls as they explore the campus during the night. As an independently produced title, the game boasts a vintage visual style that recalls popular ’90s PlayStation games such as “Silent Hill” and “Resident Evil“.

The event was held to celebrate Blumhouse’s expected 15-year anniversary in 2025. Here are some insights into what Blumhouse shared about their upcoming projects, including M3GAN 2.0, Wolf Man, The Woman in the Yard, Drop, and Fear the Spotlight.

M3GAN 2.0

As a gamer diving into the world of M3GAN 2.0, I can’t help but feel a bit in the dark about what’s to come. Williams and Blum have been reflecting on the viral fame that the first movie enjoyed way back in early 2023. But here’s some good news: Byer recently confirmed that the original crew, including our favorite cast members, are returning for this sequel!

Williams stated that the initial film served as a valuable learning opportunity, enabling the subsequent one to become larger in scale and more comprehensive.

Williams humorously pointed out that animatronics like M3GAN can be a bit temperamental, even referring to her as “a diva.” He explained how sometimes when she’s wheeled onto set, the atmosphere in the room changes dramatically and becomes eerier. The second time around, they were more comfortable because they knew the tricks of the trade. This allowed them to enjoy the process a bit more and create an even larger, more elaborate production without revealing too many secrets.

Williams confirmed that production on M3GAN 2.0 is wrapped.

Next, a brief video message from M3GAN was played. “Hello New York Comic Con! Do you miss me? Sadly, I couldn’t make it because I’m busy working wonders on set for my amazing new movie, M3GAN 2.0. I’ve received an upgrade. Can’t wait to see you all in June.” In a subtle nod, M3GAN also hinted that the film’s title is specifically “two-point-oh” and not just “M3GAN 2.

On June 27, 2025, I’ll be diving back into the action as we continue the story. Once again, it’s me and those familiar faces – Williams and Violet McGraw – reprising their roles as the survivors. Can’t wait to see what adventures await us!

More to come.
