At MIPCOM, the global TV market, which takes place from October 21st to 24th in Cannes, the adaptation business is thriving. They are currently developing localized adaptations of popular procedurals like ‘Monk’ and ‘Doctor Foster’.

Banijay Asia and Disney+ Hotstar have announced plans to create an Indian version of the renowned comedy-crime series Monk, originally produced by NBCUniversal. Meanwhile, BBC Studios Global Entertainment has disclosed a fresh Greek adaptation of their acclaimed drama Doctor Foster.

The Indian “Monk” character represents the Asian interpretation of this show, with the initial iteration featuring Tony Shalhoub and airing for eight seasons on USA Network. This is only the second adaptation globally, after a Turkish version. Exclusively, you can watch it on Disney+ Hotstar and Hulu.

Deepak Dhar, head of Banijay Asia, expressed optimism that this remake would strike a chord with Indian viewers, citing Banijay Asia’s past successes in adapting shows like “The Good Wife” and “The Night Manager.

BBC Studios Global Entertainment recently announced that they’ve secured format license agreements for a Greek remake of their critically acclaimed drama, “Doctor Foster.” In the original British version, Suranne Jones portrays Gemma Foster, a doctor who becomes suspicious of her husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) having an affair. This gripping psychological thriller has already been adapted in over a dozen countries across the globe.

In Spring 2025, the Greek adaptation of “Doctor Foster,” known as “Revenge Games” (Paihnidia Ekdikisis), will feature Marilita Lambropoulou and Nikos Kouris. This production will air on ANT1 TV and ANT1+. Additionally, BBC Studios has announced a Greek adaptation of their comedy series “Ghosts,” which will be produced by Tanweer Productions for Star Channel.
