Wolverine's Best Suit in Deadpool & Wolverine Cost $100k to Make

As a seasoned cinephile with decades of comic book movies under my belt, I must say that the Brown Wolverine suit from Deadpool & Wolverine is a true gem in the world of superhero cinematography. The fact that it carried a six-figure price tag only serves to underscore its iconic status and the meticulous craftsmanship that went into creating it.

In the film, Hugh Jackman showcased multiple Wolverine costumes that stayed true to the comics, yet due to budget limitations, additional Wolverine versions were not incorporated. Even though various Wolverines made a brief appearance in an early montage, the expense of including them outweighed the appeal of providing more costumes for Jackman. This was particularly evident when Deadpool tried to enlist a Wolverine donning the popular brown and tan suit from the original comics.

In a chat with ComicBookMovie.com, I, as a supporter of the Deadpool & Wolverine project, was privy to some exciting insights shared by editor Dean Zimmerman. He mentioned that at one stage, there were approximately 10 distinct Wolverine variations in development. Among these, we’ve already seen a Weapon X version, which made a brief appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, due to the financial demands of executing each variant, the film could only select a limited number. He used the brown and tan suit as an example, disclosing that the screen-accurate costume donned by Jackman came with a hefty six-figure price tag.

Let me show you an illustration: That expensive-looking brown and tan [garment], it cost approximately $100,000 to create. Affordability was an issue, so we had to get creative with our resources. ‘Hugh, would you mind removing your shirt and being attached to a cross? No problem at all.’… ‘Could you portray an elderly character? Absolutely.’

The suit under discussion is the one worn by Jackman when Deadpool journeys to a timeline featuring Wolverine preparing to battle the Hulk, mirroring a famous comic book cover. Out of the various Logan variant appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s the brown suit that gets the most on-screen time. In fact, it’s considered one of the best costumes worn by any character during the entire movie, even surpassing the much-anticipated blue and yellow attire. Given its high cost, it seems logical that we’ll see Jackman don this suit again at some point in the future. If not, fans might just revolt.

Will We Ever See the Brown Wolverine Suit Again?

Fans familiar with Deadpool and Wolverine will recognize that Hugh Jackman’s appearance in the movie boasts several iconic comic book looks. Besides the suit synonymous with John Byrne’s X-Men series, the film pays tribute to Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse, House of X, and Henry Cavill as Cavillerine. Although each version is shown only fleetingly, there’s a strong likelihood we might see them in future movies. The latest whispers suggest Jackman will be the primary Wolverine in the MCU, at least until they refresh the X-Men squad. Since there’s a possibility he features in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s still plausible that the brown and tan suit could reappear sooner rather than later.

Among the many versions of Wolverine that have been revealed in Deadpool & Wolverine concept art, a more complete version of the brown suit nearly made it to film. Although Jackman eventually puts on the yellow and blue mask, the Deadpool sequel originally envisioned the $100k costume sporting a comic-accurate mask. Of course, this omission was likely due to the budget, and the fact the film wanted to keep the mask reveal a secret until the very end. Still, that’s simply more reason to revisit the iconic suit whenever Jackman is back on screen (Secret Wars or otherwise).
