- Clank! is an adaptation of the hit card-battling board game, out now for mobile
- Sneak out of a dragon’s castle, burgling your way as you go
- Utilise card-based skills to fight monsters and get out alive
As a seasoned D&D player with more than a few scorch marks to show for my adventures, I can confidently say that Clank! is a game tailor-made for us dragon-wrangling misfits. With its intricate card mechanics and high-stakes loot-grabbing, this mobile adaptation of the beloved board game has all the makings of a classic heist tale – minus the need for a full-blown roleplaying group.
Every seasoned D&D player understands the wisdom of avoiding dragons, though sometimes curiosity or greed may lead one into their fiery domain. However, it is always wise to keep a safe distance, especially from the destructive 60-foot cone they unleash. If you’ve ever dreamt of outwitting a colossal, fire-spewing beast to snatch as much treasure as possible before making your escape, then you’ll be thrilled to discover that Dire Wolf Digital’s new game, Clank!, offers this very opportunity.
In Clank!, the goal is straightforward: grab as much treasure as possible and make a safe escape. However, it’s not as simple as it sounds because you’ll encounter traps, obstacles, monsters, and the ever-present danger of the dragon whose treasures you’ve just stolen. But that’s what makes Clank! an engaging board game – there are additional challenges, such as the option to delve deeper into the castle, which could potentially increase your rewards but also put your loot and life at risk.
From my gaming perspective, let me share what the mobile version brings to the table: Cross-platform play is a given, which means whether you’re using your phone or console, we all play together seamlessly. Plus, for those of us who might be new to board games like myself, there’s a helpful tutorial that walks us through our first thrilling escape. So, no more worries about being the new kid on the block!
Burnt to a cinder
To me, Clank! is one of those perfect concepts. Like Munchkin it lets you live out the usual TTRPG fantasy of a high-octane heist without necessarily having to do all the build-up that a true roleplaying group requires. Admittedly, I reckon a hot-seat mode may have helped given the rather hefty $10.99 price tag, but I’ll hardly complain given the basically required inclusion of cross-play.
