Paramount’s Dan Cohen Talks ‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva,’ ‘Adulthood’ With Josh Gad, Kaya Scodelario

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a keen eye for quality storytelling and a soft spot for nostalgia, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the revival of Republic Pictures and their focus on indie films! The prospect of seeing more Coen brothers-esque noir films like “Adulthood”, with its stellar cast including Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario, is absolutely tantalizing.

Paramount and the rejuvenated Republic Pictures plan to invest in independent films as a supplement to their blockbuster productions such as Mission Impossible and Gladiator II.

On Tuesday afternoon, Dan Cohen, the head of content licensing at the studio, discussed their upcoming “Coen brothers-like” film titled “Adulthood” during a MIPCOM Media Mastermind Keynote Session in Cannes. He announced that Republic Pictures has acquired the rights to distribute this movie in both the U.S. and Canada, with Alex Winter – known for his role in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” – being the director.

Today, Cohen, who is the president of Republic Pictures, shared some exciting news with Anna Carugati during her moderation. We’re releasing a movie titled “Adulthood“. The story has a Coen brothers-style vibe to it and features Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario. It promises to be an enjoyable watch. Additionally, we have another film on the horizon called “Bad Apples“, which stars Saoirse Ronan, a four-time Oscar nominee and a talented actress currently making waves in the industry.

He went on to say: “We’re focusing on creating intriguing, independent films as a counterpoint to big blockbusters such as Mission Impossible, Gladiator II over Christmas, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also at Christmas.

The discussion was largely centered around the excitement surrounding the new NCIS spinoff titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva, produced by John McNamara and featuring returning stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. These actors are not only acting in it, but they’re also serving as executive producers for the show. Cohen expressed his delight, saying “Their episodes are pure magic. Their on-screen chemistry is unquestionable. They are undoubtedly adored by fans.” Following this, a brief sneak peek of the upcoming series was shown where the characters appear to be rekindling their relationship while caring for their young daughter.

Cohen went on to say, “Indeed, they’ve made a few guest appearances, but it’s been twelve years since their last regular broadcast together. This narrative is what the audience has been eagerly inquiring about the most.

Pablo commented on the upcoming show in 2025: “I believe fans have been eager to discover more about Tony and Ziva’s story… We encounter them in Europe, where they are raising their nearly teenage daughter, Tali, a wonderful young girl. They are striving to maintain their relationship.

NCIS’s worldwide popularity, fueling the momentum for this spinoff, was underscored by Weatherly. “With NCIS, I had the privilege to visit Australia, Italy, Germany, England, and France. It became evident that this show transcended borders, achieving international recognition. This global influence… It’s about a family facing difficulties, struggling to make the right decisions, navigating challenging circumstances, two people trying to understand each other, two people trying to express their love.
