Terrifier 3 Star Lauren LaVera Joins Djimon Hounsou in Horror Film From Saw Team

As a seasoned film enthusiast who has been around the block a few times, I must say that the upcoming horror-thriller “The Monster” starring Lauren LaVera and Djimon Hounsou is shaping up to be quite an intriguing addition to the genre. The synopsis alone piques my curiosity, and with Darren Lynn Bousman at the helm, I have no doubt that this film will send chills down our spines.

Currently acclaimed Scream Queen, Lauren LaVera, is parting ways with Art the Clown (played by David Howard Thorton) and joining forces with renowned actor Djimon Hounsou in an upcoming horror-thriller named “The Monster”. In her previous roles, LaVera portrayed Final Girl Sienna Shaw in both the sequel “Terrifier 2” and the recent blockbuster hit “Terrifier 3”.

In the near future, LaVera (known from Marvel’s Iron Fist and Law & Order: Organized Crime) will be joining forces with Hounsou in New York City. Here, a pair of young adults are involved in a significant property fraud scheme, but their plan takes an unexpected turn for the worse. The plot summary for The Monster goes as follows (according to Deadline):

A story about how Monster tracks two young adults, who cleverly earn money by temporarily renting out luxurious New York City apartments that aren’t theirs to unsuspecting renters. The scam runs smoothly until they cross paths with an apartment owner harboring a hidden past, who ultimately turns the tables on them.

Darren Lynn Bousman will lead the chilling collaboration between LaVera and Hounsou. Bousman, renowned for his work as director in the Saw franchise (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, and later Spiral), took over the directorial role from James Wan following the success of the original Saw (2004). Over the past two decades, the Saw series has become a beloved horror classic. Mark Burg, a key figure in the Saw series, is also producing this upcoming film, The Monster. Burg shared with Deadline upon announcing the project’s production on October 18 that he had revealed the news to them.

As a movie enthusiast, I was thrilled when filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman handed me a script brimming with unexpected twists and turns. Not only did this offer present an exciting collaboration with the talented Djimon Hounsou, but it promised to deliver a cinematic experience that would leave audiences worldwide trembling in their seats. Get ready for an unforgettable journey into the heart of fear!

Lauren LaVera’s Very Real Fear of Clowns

In its initial release, “Terrifier 3” outperformed other films at the box office, raking in a staggering $18.9 million during its premiere on October 11. The horror sequel by director Damien Leone has made quite an impression, with many now familiar with actress Lauren LaVera. However, it seems fans might not be aware that LaVera shares a common phobia with her character – a genuine fear of clowns, a fear that predates even the infamous clown from “Terrifier,” Art the Clown. In an interview with Dread Central, LaVera discussed her personal fear, tracing it back to the horror classic “Poltergeist.

I found the movie amusing overall, but one specific clown doll gave me quite a scare and since then, I’ve developed an unease around clowns. It’s their eerie quality that gets to me – the constant grin on their faces and the white makeup they wear, which is supposed to symbolize joy, yet feels unsettling instead.

It seems to me that their constant false smiles make you feel uneasy because they could potentially break at any moment. This is why I dislike them on a personal level, and I believe many others might share the same sentiment.

Contrary to the 2016 movie “Terrifier,” and its sequel in 2022 titled “Terrifier 2,” where LaVera isn’t part of the cast, the supernatural horror series “Terrifier 3” makes Christmas a central theme. Interestingly, just like clowns, LaVera is not fond of the festive season either, as she expressed during an interview. Indeed, she’s no Santa’s fan either.

“I really dislike Christmas, and I made it clear to Damien when he mentioned planning the event during the festive season. I simply can’t stand Christmas, but he seemed unphased, saying ‘This is going to be fantastic.’ It only increased Sienna’s discomfort, as I think she isn’t fond of Christmas either, and her feelings about it are quite evident.

Fans can catch LaVera’s impressive debut as the tough-as-nails Final Girl Sienna Shaw in “Terrifier 2” on Amazon Freevee, at no cost. Don’t forget to check out this chilling franchise’s latest installment while it’s still playing in cinemas, as MovieWeb’s review for “Terrifier 3” promises a blood-soaked spectacle that surpasses previous entries with its abundance of gore.
